HOW MUCH WEIGHT DID U LOSE BEFORE VSG?

Recommended Posts

thats GREAT! congrats to you and good luck on monday! keep us all posted! :)

I was approved by insurance before my consultation with the surgeon. The consult is normally two weeks before surgery but I pushed mine out to 5 weeks. I started losing weight after my consult so about 5 weeks now and I have lost 31 lbs so far. wow...that's the first time I figured how long it has taken me to lose the 31 lbs...now that I have said it, it seems like alot.

Surgery is Monday...I'm excited.

its really confusing. :/

my primary dr told me not to lose weight but then why would the nutritionist put me on a diet? lol. im scared to really come straight out & ask my nutritionist if i should "try" to lose weight because of course, shes going to say yes! but will it help me get approved is what i want to know. she seemed SUPER nice until i went into her office for my appointment. she had an attitude & was doing a whole lot of eye rolling. it took everything in me not to ask her "what the hell is your problem?!" she was more "talking at me" rather than "with me". i wish there was a 2nd nut. in that office i could go to.

so i think i want little conversation with her as possible. also, my issue isnt losing weight. i drop weight quickly which is what im afraid of. the only thing is, i put the weight on twice as fast & i end up putting even more weight on. so now im confused... should i lose weight for 6 months? or drop here & there? my bmi is 46.6 (since they claim im

5'3 & not 5'1). i thought my bmi was 49.2 before.

My doctor told me they only look at the weight from the beginning of the diet so if you lose weight it wont count against you. She said the insurance company is looking to see if you're willing to lose weight and is serious about the process because they dont want to waste their money on someone who wont work at losing the weight along with their tool. What's funny is, I went to the seminar and the coordiantor of the bariatric center told me the insurance company looks at the beginning weight when I have my first consultation with the bariatric center. So Im not sure which weight the insurance company looks at, the doctors or the bariatric consultation weight.. I have to be at a BMI of 50 to qualify for the sleeve with my insurance, and therefore I cant lose a lot of weight otherwise I will be below the 50 bmi when I have my first consultation with the bariatric team. I dont know what to do. I've just been losing and gaining the same 6 and 7 pounds.

this is basically the question i have! call your dr and ask him flat out. take drastic measures to lose it if you cant.

theres a herbal fasting where you just drink tea and something else & its high in Fiber. thatll make u poop a lot. youll lose about 10-20lbs just on that. let me know what happens with the dr.

im supposed to be on a 6month diet but my primary dr told me not to lose weight or my insurance wouldnt approve me so im confused!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
