Astrotoes 0 Posted January 7, 2007 Ok maybe I will learn to live without gum but here's a biggie, what about beer? If the answer is going to hurt too much just break it to me gently.
argon 3 Posted January 7, 2007 wellllll... that's kind of 'iffy'. You might have seen, if you've read elsewhere on the message board, lots of Dr's say NO carbonated anything. *I* don't recall ever being told that, for any reason other that 'liquid calories' that I should stay away from carbonation. BUT, I do stay away. I'd KILL to drink a few diet cokes a day. The fizziness just doesn't sit well with me, and it would take SO long to drink, tiny sip by tiny sip, that it's not worth it. I have the odd sip of my boyfriends, but never order/buy for myself anymore. That's HUGE for me, cause I could have easily drank several cans of diet coke, or a big bottle a day, before. Anyways... beer. That's another story! Let's say I'm going out somewhere... prepared to have more than just 1 or 2 drinks... I'll start out with a Caesar. THEN... once I realize I'm running out of money, I'll often switch to beer. (too bad the beer I like is as expensive, if not more!) It just seems to go down very effortlessly after a couple 'prep' drinks. I just figure the alcohol 'loosens' me up (in all aspects!!! LOL, just kidding!). I'm also able to eat ALOT more freely at that point... so watch out for that, as well. Sooooo... if you're told "no carbonation, cause it will kill you!", listen. But if it's because it has too many calories, and/or may cause discomfort, I'd say, determine for yourself if you can do it. Oh yeah, and I wouldn't drink til at least 6 weeks after surgery. Astrotoes 0 Posted January 7, 2007 ok,it does make sense from the calorie end of things for sure,I'm not sure why the carbonation is a problem but there's likely a good reason, thanks a bunch.
neenagh 0 Posted January 7, 2007 Carbonation in pop hurts Astrotoes! take from one who has tried it! Hey argon, I drink caesars now too! and i tend to get looser when drinking booze too.
Yoda 0 Posted January 7, 2007 i tend to get looser when drinking booze too. Yeah, I heard that about you Neenagh....ummm....I think I read it on a bathroom wall in a bar somewhere!!! :rolleyes
neenagh 0 Posted January 7, 2007 Damn, they swore they'd never tell! btw what were you doing in the mens room HMMMM?
argon 3 Posted January 7, 2007 maybe it WAS in the ladies room!!! :omg: LOL Astrotoes - the way I thought of it, is that when you drink a mouth ful of pop or whatever, it stops in your 'pouch' for a sec before it funnels down to yer belly. *I* think it feels bad cause the fizz kind of expands in your 'pouch' before it goes down... you know, like when you pour a glass of coke, it foams over... maybe that happening in your 'pouch' causes the discomfort? And it didn't hurt before, cause our stomachs being so huge, there's lots of area to expand in, and we don't notice. I dunno... it's just what I tell myself. It gets me through the day. haha and I say 'pouch', with these thingys : ' ', cause I don't like calling it a 'pouch'
angel bear 2 Posted January 7, 2007 Yoda, Thanks girls. Hubby says he can't wait for the summer and bathing suit/lingerie shopping (he he) I can't wait for the weekend for two!! I'm back in the swing of things but man I am STARVED! The last week I'm not restricted at all and I'm hungry between meals. I've added some fruit and more Protein but I know I need a fill so I'll touch base with the clinic this week. On the carbonated drinks it's not just the calories - the fizz is painful. I don't know what it's doing to the band but I tried (just out of curiosity cause I'm like the cat) diet rootbeer and I've never attempted it since. I don't chew gum though and I don't want to find out about that! mmmm looser Neenagh... in what way????
CLOE 0 Posted January 8, 2007 astrotoes, Dr. Cobourn told me that if I wanted to have carbonation, like pop and beer, go ahead, but, be aware of calories. I believe that carbonation really bothers banders that may already have indigestion problems, especially prior to banding. Some surgeons say NO to carbonation, so make sure you listen to your doc!! Yoda, I too read that about neenaugh, we must have been to the same bathroom stall, it was at a truck stop I believe.lol Mandi, well Mandi, what can I say..................I'm glad everything so far hasn't gotten stuck in your 'hole'. u hem :ermm .............................................................................................:zip:
