Argon's Activities

oh you guys.... :)

Has anyone seen the commercials for the new Special K Protein stuff? Protein water!? I just looked it up and the water's supposed to be something like $5 a bottle, for only 5g of protein. But there are protein MEAL bars (like choc. peanut butter) that have 10g of protein (and much cheaper) I'd like to give em a try if we ever get them in canada.

Back to work for me tomorrow.... ugg... not looking forward to it. At least it'll be a short week!

Have a good week too, guys! Talk to you later :girl_hug:

Luckily I was not exposed to the dangers of truffles. I did have some hedgehogs, turtles and ferrero roche's though... and I'm happy that the 3 hundred boxes of chocolates were left behind with my mom!

Mandi, I bought some Zone bars at costco. They have 15g of Protein per bar and loaded with Vitamins. You have to buy a case of them but there are 3 flavors, caramel, peanut and double chocolat. They taste OK and are easy enough to eat.

I have to go try out some things like that and find ones I like before I commit to a case! I used to eat the Slimfast Peanut Butter Crunch bars, and they're really good.... wonder how many g's of Protein there... Also saw that Shopper's has 30% of their drink mixes and bars like that, so I'm gonna check those out too.

And thanks guys !!

You are doing great Mandi! Do you generally try to eat low carb, or do you focus more on high protien? I am just learning, and I want to do what is best. I find that carbs make me very hungry (pre-op) and that they triggered cravings for me...I wonder if I will still feel the same way. Did you go through that as well?

You are doing great. I can't believe you have lost almost 100 pounds...you go girl!

Victoria.

Hmmm... Victoria. Hard questions! You're making me think! I don't do anything specific, really. If I don't have things that are high carb, it's just cause I don't feel like it that particular day, or I just know it wouldn't be a good idea to try to eat. I don't bother with bread anymore. Makes me sad, cause I so badly wanted to have Quizno's when I went home at Xmas! ( I would have given it a try anyways, but the first few days were weird for me, and I could barely eat.)

I don't actually keep track of things, so I don't know if I'm getting ALOT of Protein in, but probably not. I keep meaning to REALLY try though. I do eat the meat in whatever I have first, or at least more. A couple nights ago, I had beef+brocoli stirfry, so I'd eat a couple bites of beef, then a brocoli with a little rice mixed in) If I do that, it's just cause I really like what I'm eating, and I don't want to fill up on JUST the boring meat!

I've never noticed anything other than emotions giving me cravings... I just wanted to eat all the time, anytime I wasn't doing anything. So I don't know if that'll be any different. I'm sure it will be better though... I hoped I'd be totally unable to eat things like Pasta, rice and bread, but nope!

(side note: somehow today, I ate almost all of this enormous dinner bun I got at lunch with my chili (which I also ate almost all of)... I don't get it. Dan says "uh oh... maybe you need a fill", and I was like: "No way, Jose! Tomorrow I'll probably not be able to eat barely anything!") When that happens, I think 'sudden loss of restriction = slippage" and get a little concerned. But then, like I said... thats quashed (word?) the next day when I can't eat.)

How's that for long-winded?! (hehe, look at me using all these words I've never typed and/or only heard said!!)

anyone know anyone who owns/works at a Quizno's and can pull some strings? I think all I NEED is some of their 'grill sauce'. :)

Hi Mandi, don't even start with the Quizno's. I was so addicted to that and subway. I would eat a footlong at work in about 2 minutes and then hurry back to work. I loved them because they were easy to eat fast and delicious. The Cookies are pure evil! :heh:

I know what you mean about the spelling thing...I don't type much anymore and sometimes I can't figure things out and I have always thought my spelling was a strong point of mine...for example see the previous paragraph...is that how you spell delicious? Looks right, but who knows!:embarassed:

Thanks for your advice about food. You are obviously doing the right thing by just keeping it simple. It is funny how it affects (effects...who the hell knows anymore...) us when our men say stuff regarding our eating. Last night I had some Soup with Beans in it and my hubby said 'did you eat the whole thing' and it has bothered me all day. I think I need to talk to him and tell him that I am sensitive right now and do not need the food police 'helping' me. I will be nice about it though, because he probably doesn't even remember saying it!

Well, I should think about going to bed...thanks again for sharing your secrets with me!

Victoria.

Victoria.....what is ironic about "did you eat the whole thing" re. your Soup is that at this point you really should eat all of it to get your Protein in (ie. via the beans!). Yup, you will need to tell him that you need to police yourself....thank him for his support but you need his support in other ways. BUT if you do this, be sure to be consistent.....you can't then turn around and ask him to remind you not to eat this or that ... ...or to remind you not to buy those chips/icecream etc. (I have learned this the hard way!!)

Yoda, thank you. I will take your advice. It's kinda like when my kids were toddlers.... hehe. The only time my hubby is allowed to food police me is at the movies. I used to talk myself into popcorn all the time. My doctor says popcorn is a thing of the past because it will make me sick. I am going to take his word for it and not try it. Thanks again for the advice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
