Hey guys... did I tell you, the fill Dr. here who might bless me by taking me as a patient MIGHT be getting back to me regarding my request on Friday, or maybe early next week?

Oh please, oh please.... I hope he'll take me! If not, what do I do!? I just might have to beg someone (ie: my parents) for money to take a trip to TO for a few days. Uggg...

There's a lady in NS who does her own fills (she's a paramedic)... but I don't think I reeeally want to do that.

So... I just got home, and had a message on my phone from that Dr's office. I've just finished having a good cry...

It was his nurse, saying that she'd spoken to the Dr. and he "feels that I should continue my aftercare with Dr. Cobourn, and that he does the same thing with his patients, still takes care of them if they move away..." "So if I can continue seeing Dr. Cobourn, or find someone closer by, but Dr. Beausoleil will not do it."

WHAT? He expects one of his patients who moves to Saskatchewan to come back to New Brunswick every time they want a fill?!??! Really?? He wouldn't want a lapband Dr. in Saskatchewan to take his patient? (not that there are any in SK, but if there was.)

So, I am many things... MAD, SAD, and PISSED... all at the same time.

WTF!? I am NOT the only person to ever request this, and he DOES have other patients that are not his own! I'm not seeing Dr. Cobourn... I haven't for months, and I'm not because I can't! I explained in the letter I sent that that I wasn't going to be seeing Dr. Cobourn for my aftercare, because I just couldn't.... that I was going to be going to Calgary for fills, because it was the most feasible. It's not like I've been seeing Dr. C, and just want something more convenient!

AHHH! Oh man... what do I do???

I was going to call back, and try to plead my case some more, but I need time to think through what I need to say. I know I'm gonna cry on the phone, and maybe having the weekend to let it sink in will lessen that chance.

AHHHHHHH!

Oh man, that really sucks. What if you called Dr. Cobourn's office and tell them what happened. Maybe he would call for you, you know that "doc to doc" kinda thing. It's worth a try.

You know what... I had originally contacted Marie, and asked her if she could contact/send my info to them. She replied saying that they had done that for another patient back in December, and were replied to by fax, told that Dr. Beausoleil was too busy with his own patients right now, and could not take any new ones. So Marie said that until she heard otherwise, she would not be trying that again. :|

What's up with this guy, it takes 10, 15 minutes tops. Keep trying, is there no one within a few hundred kilos, that can? I can't believe your stuck, it dosent make any sense.

I know... it's bizarre.

No, there's no one (professional, anyways) in the Maritimes. Dr. Cobourn said that he was working on getting someone in Halifax, but last I heard, that was a no-go so far.

This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I'm sorry you are going thru this Mandi. Maaaaaaaaaaaan, I just don't get people. Okay, here's what I recommend you do....in this order:

1. Go in person to that Dr's office to rationally (try and stay calm) plead your case. Remind him that TO is XXXX kms away from where you are (go armed with this info) and that the total cost for you to return for a fill would be $XX (calculate airfare, hotel, cabs etc). Further, remind him that Dr. Coborn will not feel slighted or betrayed in ANY way should you receive your fills elsewhere...that, in fact, he recommended this due to the distance you live. You may wish to remind him that Canada is BIG F**KING COUNTRY!!!!! If that doesn't work:

2. Try the Marie route AGAIN (nothing ventured, nothing gained). If that doesn't work:

3. Go to your doctor (ie. GP) now in NB (assuming you have one....if not....GET ONE!) explain your problem and see if he/she will do the fills. (obtain an instructional CD either from Dr. Coborn or elsewhere...ie. TLBC?). Explain that many patients do this (look at Buffie).

Don't worry Mandi....have your cry and then turn that emotion into action....don't let it slide too long....get crackin' on it, cause you NEED a fill!

((((HUGZ))))

Thanks guys

And Yoda.. about going to see him personally... he's 180-ish kms away in a city I've never been... hmm... what if I called and asked to talk to him personally? Probably won't let me. I want to make sure that they knew who I was, cause from the time I sent my faxed 'request' letter, and the time I called them, there was a big gap, so maybe, even though she 'thought' she'd seen my request, they thought I was someone new asking for it, and didn't remember my story? I don't know.

If no luck there, yes.. I'll try Marie and/or Dr. Cobourn.

Getting a GP is SO hard, nevermind one that's understanding about WLS!!! I know a lady here who had the lapband... I'll ask her who her family physician is... that would probably be good.

LOL, Cloe, that self-filling gal IS looking pretty good!

:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
