Attention Scale Addicts!

Recommended Posts

I am sooooooooo happy you posted this Jackie. I have been at 176-179 for a month and a half now. Lost most of my weight before surgery since last june. I was getting upset and then I had hubby hide my scale and from everyones advise took out the handy dandy tape measure. I am losing inches. I do Fitness KickBoxing 3 days a week walk 3 days a week and do crunches 1 day a week. The scale doesnt move but my body is and that is what matters. Those pictures put it into perspective for me.

I used to work as a circuit coach at Curves - and this is all so true! We would weigh and measure clients once a month. Sometimes they would not lose a pound, but would have lost an inch here or there. Muscle is more compact than fat & your body cannot do it all at once - lose weight, tighten up, and get smaller. I too need to toss the scale. I'm 17 days out from VSG & have weighed nearly every day. I'm looking for positive reinforcement from the freakin' thing and if it's not down by at least one, I find myself discouraged - not a good thing when you're trying to shed! I am aiming to limit myself to once per week (along with taking pictures) for diary and scrapbooking purposes, but it's hard. I wonder if a pad lock would do the trick...

This isn't a picture of me. This is a picture from the article. It amazed me!

This is a great article/blog entry that a friend linked me to that illustrates a very important lesson that we should all remember. Just because the scale isn't moving, it doesn't mean your body isn't changing! I know this is a message that I need to be reminded of constantly. I'm a definite scale addict.

Thanks for posting this. I had experienced this quite early in my journey but to see the pictures is amazing. In the beginning of my journey, my scale said I had only lost 7 pounds in three weeks but the truth was I had lost 16 pounds of body fat and gained 9 pounds of muscle. My doctor has this amazing scale that tells you all this fabulous stuff and gives you a printout to compare your readings throughout your "transformation".

I still step on my scale every morning but I don't let it bother me if nothing changes for a few days.

You always seem so informative with the weight loss journey. At this point I need someone I can have as a mentor and who will be honest with me. I got sleeved July 15, so far I have lost 28 lbs including my 6 day pre op diet weight loss. As of 3 days ago, my dr started me on moist food, fish, spinach...things like that but its very very hard to eat. now, I have not lost any weight since then...this is the 4th day and I am feeling alarmed like I did something wrong. I'm having problems getting in my Protein drinks such as EAS, Atkins ..YOU name it they hurt my stomach so bad. I get stomach spasms. I've tried Isopure YUCK...WHAT SHOULD I DO, AND HOW CAN I BEGIN TO LOSE AGAIN...HELP

Hi myezzence, well - your 3rd week stall sounds like it could be right around the corner, if you should get this. First thing to do is not panic! Don't worry, if you keep staying on course your weight will eventually pick back up. That said, it sounds like you are really doing amazing things with your weight loss already -- CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :D

As far as your eating is concerned, I also had a hard time acclimating my new sleeve over into mushies and solids when my plan called for it. What I did in the beginning was just chose one meal per day to eat as a mushy or a solid (when you get there). Not everything agrees with our sleeves so the main concern should be to eat very very slowly, take tiny bites and even wait a few minutes between each bite. Especially after the first one to see if your sleeve takes to it or not. If you feel nauseated or uncomfortable in any way, don't force it, stop immediately. Then at that point, put that new food on the shelf for a month and go back to see if you can tolerate it at a later time.

Don't worry if you can't get all your foods in, some of us just take a little bit longer. :)

Protein Drinks or supplements can be tricky for a lot of folks. I've liked Isopure in the past but it can have a very strong taste. In the beginning your main intake should be fluids. If you can't meet all your Protein needs in the first month do not worry. You are pretty much in line with most others. Definitely do your best to get all or most of your Water in though! My suggestion would be to maybe Water down the Isopure so the flavor isn't too demanding. Also, special K makes a nice Protein Drink that isn't as strong as Isopure. It does only have 5g per serving but as I always tell others, some protein is better than no protein. Try watering down all your Protein Drinks. Again, even getting a little bit is better than getting none.

Try www.vitalady.com - she will send you single servings of many different and popular protein choices. They are all very good and high quality. I do suggest the Syntrax Nectars. They are very good, but again those do only have 6g of protein, so if you're trying to get more you might want to make other choices right now.

I hope this helps!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
