I am a 40 year old woman who has recently made the decision to have a sleeve done in Mexico in September. I am extrememly excited about having the procedure done, however I was curious to see if there is anyone else out there that has been sleeved that has hypothyroidism?? Do these people lose weight at a slower rate than everyone else?? I guess that is the one thing that concerns me the most is that I will have the surgery and still not lose alot becasue of this condition.

I have hypothyroidism but I have not had the sleeve yet. I am thinking weight loss for us might be slightly slower but not a great deal. My doctor says he does alot of hypothyroid patients and he has seen good results. Make sure your TSH is where it is supposed to be. One thing he did say was that he did not want to get into surgery with a patient that did not have the correct TSH levels.

I am a 56 year-old woman and I have hypothyroidism. I don't think my weight loss has been slower because of it. In the January sleever update posts, most of us have lost between 50-60 lbs. I think two factors which have the most impact are your age (younger loses faster) and your starting weight (bigger posts bigger numbers, but the percentage lost is about the same.)

Don't let hypothyroidism stop you from getting a sleeve.

I am 39 yrs old and also have hypothyroidism. I am still fairly new with the sleeve only 9 weeks in. I have lost a total of 64 lbs which is a lot but not in comparision with how much I have to lose. My primary doc is monitoring me to reduce my synthroid levels as I lose weight. As soon as she found out I was having the surgery she lowered me from 150 mcg to 132 mcg a day. I just had my blood drawn two days ago and I suppose I will find out this week if my meds will stay the same or change.

I don't feel that having the hypothyroidisn has hindered my weight loss so far, but I would guess like most people once I get to a point where I don't have a lot left to go it will get more difficult.

I have hypothyroidism and met my goals.

Just be sure to have your bloodwork done more frequently. They are still trying to find the right dose for me - my needs have gone down quite a bit as my body has gotten smaller. They test me every 3 months & adjust as needed - having an overactive thyroid is bad (or worse) as an underactive one.

I'm hypothyroid. Matter of fact I don't have one anymore. My Dr told me it would not hinder my weight loss once I get sleeved. It is hindering it now like CRAZY! That's why he told me to get bariatric surgery. He's been working with me since my thyroid was removed. We're both tired!

Thanks so much for your responses! I can see that this online community is going to be of great help before, during and after my surgery. I think about how my life is going to be so different at least 100 times a day. LOL Most of the time it is with excitement but I must admit I have my fears as well. Knowing that I have this resource for help and support it very encouraging. Thanks again for your time.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
