Hi everyone, I am new here. I've already read through several posts and have found out that from the beginning of this process to the end of the process is....welll......a LONG process. Can you tell me from the 1st consult to surgery about how long are we looking at? I have my 1st consult on Thursday, but I already have all of the paper work needed for insurance. I have my 3 month diet plan, psych eval., PCP eval., so I'm hoping that I can get things underway very soon. Does anyone have a quick time-lime of the span of time from A-Z?

I'm finding that everyone's experience is so vastly different it would be nearly impossible to give you a good estimate. For me it will probably be about 4 months from referral to surgery, for others a year or more.

It REALLY depends on what your surgeon and/or your insurance requires. I'd have had mine completed within 6 or 7 weeks if I could do the surgery this month. (Have to wait until the end of August for school break EEEK!) Some people it does take upwards of a year though.

It just depends on your surgeon. If you have everything your insurance requires, and your surgeon submits it to your insurance for approval, it could only take a few weeks. Once mine was sent in for approval it was only one week then my surgeons office called to set up my surgery date.

Good luck.

depends on what insurance u go with and what they require....for me from start to finish meaning having a surgery date was close to 3 months.......luckily i don't have to have that 6 month supervised diet some people have to do.........

LIke everyone else said, it definitely depends on your doctor and your insurance requirements. From my June 6 (consult) to July 20 (date of surgery) will be exactly 6 weeks for me.

Thank-you everyone for your posts. I am very excited and nervous! It took an act of Congress to get an appt. with surgeon. Finally, tomorrow is consult day. :)

That's funny! I really want to squeek in and have the surgery before (but I am pretty sure it won't happen so quickly.) school begins because I am a teacher. :) My referral was June 6th and I have consult tomorrow July 7th. I have all of my paperwork to turn in and my insurance calls for a 3 month nutrition plan. I have all of it....just need to get passed the consult. Good luck to you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
