Hello.....I was banded on 6-19-06

Recommended Posts

I would like to talk to someone about how much weight you normally lose. I have been banded for 2 weeks and 4 days and have ost 15.8 pounds. I lost most of that in the first 10 days. Since then it has been about a pound every 2-3 days. Is this normal or am I eating too much? Can someone answer my question?:phanvan

That sounds similar to what I was losing while on liquids. Right now your body is trying to heal. You may gain some back when advancing to mushies, and on to solids. Just try to make the food choices healthy ones, and when you begin the fill process, after you have healed it will all start back down again. Just don't go too low when it comes to calories. And make sure your Protein stays up, you want to stay as healthy as possible!

Good Luck and congrats on the weight you have lost!

Thanks for the encouragement. I guess since I have moved up to soft foods I am getting more in my stomach. I guess I am trying to move too fast. I have been big all my life and I finally have a way to take it off and I just want to hurry.... I still want foods that taste really good. Of course it's only because my mind and taste buds still want it. I am not hungry. I have a friend who had gastric bypass and he told my husband that those cravings would go away in about three to four months. I hope they go away soon.....

Well, the band won't cure head hunger... you'll probably go through a "honeymoon" phase where you won't want your old favorites because you are losing well, but most folks, after awhile, do hit a stage where they really battle the same old problems as before: eating out of boredom, loneliness, anger, sadness, etc. You have to eventually work on those things, just like you have to work at making good food choices. My surgeon's office recommends finding a counselor or psychiatrist who can help you work through those issues when you run into them.

You're losing great right now! You should expect that to slow down once you're out of your healing phase. And if you don't lose at all for a week or so, remember that bandsters lose an average of 1-2 lbs per week during the first year. Meaning that you have to look at it over the long term - not everyone loses steadily. You might lose a bunch in one week and nothing for a week or so afterwards. But keep the faith -- the pounds sure add up over time!

Here's wishing on you the speedy weight loss you want!!

:clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
