I'm 1 month post sleeve. After small meals, I feel like I'm having acid reflux symptoms or want to throw up. No matter how little I eat, it feels like the food stops. I'm thirsty all the time for Water or cold fruits and juices. Initially I felt very weak and tired, however that is going away.

Nothing else to tell. I was wondering if anyone out there have or had the above symptoms?

Hi Barb,

My doc prescribed Prevacid from the get-go. I have never had an acid problem but he said it can come on with a vengeance and he was right. I didn't take the medicine, and sure enough about 6 days post op it arrived. Now I take the medicine and have had no more problems. Give Doc a call, sounds like you're gonna need it. Good luck to you :)

Thanks. I had reflux prior to surgery and my Doc prescribed a liquid antiacid, but it doesn't seem to help. I'm thinking about going back to the doctor.

I'm thirsty all the time. If I drink too much Water then I don't have room for my meals. Any suggestions on how to quench my thirst?

Hi Barb! Actually I JUST got an email back from my doctors office today. I'm taking Nexium a.m. and p.m. and then Zantac150 in the afternoon. For breakthrough heartburn I'm taking Gaviscon. Avoid Tomato based dishes, fruits and juices, any form of chocolate, alcohol and anything carbonating. Also, if you smoke, quit. I'll be starting my Zantac tomorrow.

Hope this helps both of us! ;)

Thanks Renee. I'm taking Zantac (liquid form), however not regularly and this morning, I took an over the counter Prilosec. I have prescription Prilosec, but capsules are too large to swallow at this time.

Make sure you take it regularly! It can be very dangerous early out to have chronic, severe GERD or heartburn. Plus, it hurts like hell <_<

You can crush up the pills and put them in a bit of juice and swallow them if you need to. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
