After all is said and done...

I have read so much about the sleeve in the last few weeks, some good, some bad. For the most, more good then bad. Someone posted that they really have a hard time eating out with their husband. She said her husband gets upset that he pays so much for them to go out and eat because she can't really eat much. I am not worried much about this. My husband is very much into his body, he works out a lot and is very careful with what he eats (wish that rubbed off on me, lol). Sure we go out to eat sometimes, but not often, and certainly not to expensive places. My husband is also a fast eater, so I figured by the time he was done chomping down, and I was done slowly eating part of my appetizer, we would finish together. I think I would of course have more problems when I get together with friends, because we like to eat and drink, but honestly, I don't do this terribly often either. I think I would be able to adjust fine, in fact, I will be thrilled when after my surgery if I stopped being completely food obsessed!

Anyway, is there anything you have experienced since your sleeve that you maybe don't really like, but the benefits really outweigh all that? I mean lets face it there are pros and cons to everything in life, I didn't think this was going to be any different, but I for one am willing to take any bad to just be thin!!!

Just trying to see as many different views as possible before my (hopefully) surgery.

Thanks!!

Hi Suez - welcome to the forums. I haven't been sleeved yet, so I'm not really qualified to answer your question. However, check out the complications forum http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/48-vsg-complications-support-group/ as I think you will find some of your answer there.

There are a lot of people on here who are at every stage of the VSG journey. You will find a lot of support on here as well as answers to a lot of questions if you look around at each of the forums.

For me so far, the hardest part of the pre-op diet has been the cravings. Today however is a new day and so far, no cravings - so hopefully I am past those for now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
