Wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I was banded 6/8/06 in Chattanooga, TN by Dr. Jaime Ponce (my hero).:cheer2: I started the process a year and a half ago. It has been a very long journey getting my band. You know the old saying...what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I've learned patience. I've learned to take a more active roll in my health care and not hestitate to seek out a second opinion from another physician. I've learned that what is so one day may not be so the next day. I've learned if you want something bad enough and are determined to get it you will eventually find a way.

During my journey to being banded I have read this board regularly and have found the answer to many of my questions both before and after surgery and all sorts of information to help me with my decision. The success you all have had has given me the inspiration to continue on the roller coaster road to being banded when I would hit another obstacle and feel like giving up. Thanks to everyone for all the encourgement you have unknowingly given. :clap2: Maybe I'll be able to return the favor one day.

Thanks Mrs. P,

Those are wonderful words of wisdom and inspiration for me as one who is just beginning the journey. I have no idea what obstacles are ahead as I have my first doc appointment next Tuesday and have not ventured into the world of insurance yet. It all sounds so scary but I know you have to hang in there, do not take no for an answer and most of all have patience. Good luck on the rest of the journey.

T

PS I too have found everyone here so helpful, I thank all of you as well.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
