When were you able to eat salad?

Recommended Posts

I am 10 days out from surgery and so I know it will be quite some time before my new tummy can handle salad- but I was just curious to hear from others who enjoy salad when they were able to re-introduce that into their diet.

I'm 11 weeks out and just tried my first bites of salad earlier this week. Aside from not being able to hold much, it went down fine & I didn't get sick at all. I was so relieved because I LOVE salads and was really beginning to miss them greatly!

Good to hear. The NUT at my docs office said to wait at least 3 months. I'll wait it out and then just test the waters in a few months.

I've not been sleeved yet, but I have a very good friend who was sleeved 2 months ago. She recently had a small salad and did great. I have 11 more days until my sleeve :)

I eat salad...I think I started getting things like grilled chicken salad out at about 6-8 weeks. I eat some chicken first then some salad...tomatoes and cukes...oh and hard boiled eggs sliced up too...then take it home and had 2 more meals out of it...lol.

I have my 5 week checkup a few days ago, and that was one of the questions I asked the nurse. She told me at 6 weeks I can start to eat salads. I know everyone's probably told something different, so, i'd follow what your dr. tells you.

Goodluck!

I frequently have a mini salad to use some leftover meats. Since I'm not having any problem getting in the Protein, I cut the meat down to 2oz and add in about 10g each of some chopped raw spinach, pepper, onion, carrot, avo, Tomato tossed with a bit of dressing and cheese. My system hasn't complained and I'm a bit shy of 2 months out. But then, I haven't had any problems with anything that I have tried yet. Maybe not such a good thing - who knows?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
