fear of the mushies??

Recommended Posts

I'm technically suppose to start mushies tomm but I've having such a hard time with liquids (in terms of everything seems unappetising) that i decided to add a couple of soft food. Yesterday for dinner I had craving for crabcake (does that consider mushie) and after 3-4 small bites minutes apart, I started feeling sort of ill so I stopped. Today I tried egg/cheese and again after 3 small bites I started feeling ill. I don't know if I'm being paranoid and being fearful of eating "normal" food after 20 days of liquids. I don't like cottage cheese. what suggestions do you guys have? I am so tired of Protein Drinks that I want to go a day without having to drink one.

Retried Beans "loosened up" with enchilada sauce with some melted cheddar cheese

tuna or chicken salad

Ricotta bake (www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com

Mashed potatoes thinned a bit (if you are not carb sensitive)

Soups purreed (I add extra precooked chicken to mine to up the protein)

I haven't gotten nauseous from eating yet but I get a tight feeling across the top of my chest if I take a bite or sip too close together. I eat (and drink) very cautiously ;) crabcakes are on my list of things to eat once I'm on regular foods (yum!)

I was the same way. The nausea went away after a few days of eating, though. I think your stomach has to get used to food again after not having anything even semi-solid put in it. Hang in there and I bet it goes away soon.

I will be a month out on the 6th and I was feeling this way too. Everyday I add something new. Today I tried green Beans. YUM! I was wondering, are you taking a PPI? When I first starting experimenting with new foods I felt nausea but then I started taking Prilosec and now I feel fine. (Unless I take that bite past full.. LOL)

Here is my deal at ONE MONTH SINCE BEING SLEEVED!!!

You have to go very slow eating mushies or anything new! Also I can definitely NOT drink and take in food at the same time. There isn't enough space for both liquid and anything solid--ish.

Take very little bits. I call them "morsels". Remember how you might stick a finger into the frosting of a cake? Just enough to rest on the very top of a finger tip. Eat that little bit. Slowly. Let it hang out in your mouth for awhile. Let your taste buds get off on how it doesn't taste like Protein SHAKE!!! Rejoice at that fact alone.

I never feel sick in my stomach from soft foods. It always is a tight feeling at the bottom of my throat or top of my esophagus that means I've had enough or most likely too much.

Some soft foods are easier than others. I can eat 2 oz. of hummus without problem. I can eat a small container of Fage 0% fat Greek yogurt but it takes me awhile to eat the entire container (5.3 ounces) if I go every slowly. tuna salad is different -- I can only eat about 2 teaspoons before I feel like I'm being choked by the food. I had a piece of a sushi roll last night, a salmon, avocado and cucumber with rice, wrapped in seaweed. The roll was sliced into 6 pieces. I was able to eat on piece -- very slowly. Next time sashimi and NO RICE. The rice gets stuck too easily!

i was really scared to start mushies too. but it was ok, it was weird getting used to it but it will go away. Just keep trying and don't over fill yourself, you'll be ok. . . good luck

I'm taking nexium.. Isn't it funny that I'm afraid to start trying real food? I don't think I will chew enough and am afraid I'm gonna throw up and hurt my sleeve. I guess I have to take it one day at a time.

thanks guys for you answers and support. I don't think I'll be getting anymore crabcakes for a while, lol. My problem is I didn't grow up eating a lot of american foods (i'm from the carribean) so it's hard to find healthy things I like. I grew up eating rice and rice and rice with Beans and meat. just to give you an example, I only started eating yogurt a few years ago. How do I make chicken salad without mayo (I can't stand the thought of mayonaise, yuk)?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
