Kelly, Aceves or Alvarez

Recommended Posts

My sister's best friend went to Dr. Joya for lapband about 5 years ago. She's an RN and was happy with her experience and her outcome. I was considering him, but he wasn't discussed widely enough on the web for me to feel comfortable choosing him for my own procedure. Also, for surgery with him you fly to Puerto Vallarta, which would have cost me considerably more money than flying to San Diego. Although if there'd been enough info on the web to put him above the others in MX, the flight cost wouldn't have been a real factor.

I know this has been asked in many ways on this forum, but I've never really seen what I'm looking for. I have chosen Dr. Kelly as my surgeon. I'm scheduled for July 29th and have already paid my deposit and paid for plane tickets for my husband and myself. But, with the recent death he has had (along with "encouragement" from GA Girl ;)) I'm beginning to doubt my choice. I'm looking for help from everyone here to either confirm my doubts and help me choose a new Dr. or confirm my original decision to use Dr. Kelly and give me the courage to stick with him. TIA for anyone willing to help me out with this! So, my question is...WHY did you choose the Dr. you did? I don't want to know about how great your experience was, I can find that info all over here. I want to know what made you finally decide on that Dr. What I mean is was it because he's in so & so location, his medical history is this, his personal history is that, his experience is this much, his training was here, his rates of complications/infections/deaths is that or maybe just because you heard so much great stuff about him, or your friend used him. I hope y'all get my meaning. I want specifics :D! I'm not asking y'all to do my research for me, I can do that on my own. I just want your personal reasons for making the choice you did.
I think you hit nail on head when you said you could do your own research. Research on any surgeon would be highly recommended. I choose Dr aceves after many months of research. I specifically chose him because OF THE NUMBER OF VSG HE HAS PERFORMED with LOW TO NO COMPLICATION RATE.
The transportation and safety issues also contributed to decision. Recovering in the hospital and closure technique was important to me. Leak testing material is also a consideration.
Just as a FU note I mentally prepared myself for any complication including death and I am very pleased that I was blessed with an uncomplicated operative and post- op period.
4 weeks ago i went to emergency room acute Gallblabber was admitted and had no opportunity to research my surgeon. I had to return due to post op bleed- second surgery. have had Bile leak and now have infection. So it cannot be stressed enough that surgery is serious bussiness and complications can and do occur.
My local surgeons partner mentioned perhaps i should have had my GB done in Mexico, Maybe he was right!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
