Can't make up your mind

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Have you been doing what I used to do? I sat on these boards--as a matter of fact 3 different boards and read everything I could read about Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) trying to make up my mind should I or can I just do another diet and exercise more. I called it "lurking." because I never posted anything,

Well, WLS was my answer and it was almost 3 years ago and 105 pounds ago. It was the best choice I have ever made in my entire life.

If you are sitting there trying to make up your mind and you are a self pay and Mexico is your choice please stop and read a few things and think about a few things.

1. When it comes to WLS you want the best and it is NOT time to PRICE SHOP--you deserve to have the very best. I wanted the very best doctor I could have if I was going to pay for this out of my pocket. Dr. Aceves name kept coming up as being the very best.

2. Are you having your sugery in a "clinic" and then being sent to a hotel room to recover--NOT a good idea. Do you have a "24 hr" nursing staff watching you and taking care of you 24-7? Well, make sure you have the answers before you make the final choice.

3. Dr. Aceves has a complete staff of many superior doctors and nurses in a top of the line Hospital. I saw 2 doctors 3 times a day when I had weight loss surgery and Dr. Aceves's Hospital has less of an infection rate than any US Hospital. They would never let you go home until you are ready and you are well enough to fly back to your home.

4. So please consider all these things when making a choice of who is going to do your WLS. Your health and having successful sleeve surgery are the most important thing you will have once you make your choice.

If you have any questions please ask. I wish you all the succes in the world with you WLS. It is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
