Irritated Skin - Need Advise

Recommended Posts

I forgot to take my regular body/face lotion with me when I went to visit my family last week so I used my sister's Proactive lotion (twice). BIG MISTAKE. Huge. I have sensitive skin to start with so I really, really, really should have known better.

My neck turned red and itchy the next day and now, 5 days later, it's still red and itchy and has now formed little teeny tiny blister-looking lumps. I don't think they really are blisters because I tried to open one to see if it was filled with anything but it wouldn't open. I know, ick. My forehead and behind both ears are itchy and lumpy too but not red.

I've tried Benedryl, no help. I've tried Alovert, no help. I've been putting cortisone cream on my neck (but not my forehead), no help.

Anyone have any homeopathic remedies for skin irritation? I could really use some help here, a little relief from the itching would be nice too!

Serves me right for using a skin care product on my *gasp* skin! lol

Vinegar is what I would try. It could take away the itchiness and if that fails ... Baking soda wash....Stableizes PH. I hope it works for you. Just don't mix the mix them together.

LOL - thanks for the advise - and the visual. I see some weird kind of science project exploding on my epidermis!

What does the vinegar do? I understand the PH and baking soda but the vinegar is a mystery.

Thanks for the advise.

I'm the same way, except instead of blisters my skin starts to "scale" and flake off. After the scales are gone, it looks just like a burn, but it continues to itch, with the same intensity of a mosquito bite. Tea tree oil does this to my face if I even think about putting any on.

I use hydrocortizone, with little effect. I've used oatmeal baths & compresses and those do seem to help. If you try them, make sure you use the oatmeal Water as well as the oatmeal itself - the water contains the oatmeal releases, and those oils do wonders for me.

A friend told me about baking soda compresses, but I've never tried it - soak a washcloth in a mixture of 2 tablespoons of baking soda per pint of water. Apply to the area for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

If you have an ALOE plant then take the gel from a leaf and use that on the area.

I'm with Penni Aloe Vera is a miracle plant. Any one with sensitive skin should get one, the aloe from the leaf works much better than the bottled stuff. It's great for skin irritation and sun burns. Feel better.

You could mix the oatmeal AND aloe...

Shake some uncooked oatmeal into a blender and add boiling Water. Blend it, but remember it will thicken as it cools. When it gets cool, stir in some aloe gel.

Or put the gel on after soaking off the oatmeal paste/mask.

Good luck and sorry about your chemical burns. I had a similar reaction to hotel bar soap once, ouchies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
