2 Major Issues - Advice Please :)

Recommended Posts

The lump in my throat is gone. Been on Prevacid and doing much better. At the pureed food stage. Surgery was 17 days ago.

Problem #1 - Drinking/Protien/Eating - So pureed Soups are fantastic and they go down with ease. My first egg...Threw that up. Tried Hard Boiled and I can eat one egg white. So how in the hell do I get 70 grams of Protein in and 64 ounces of Water. I literally probablyy drank 3 cups of Water yesterday and had maybe 20 grams of Protein. I know I get side tracked and since I am not hungry I totally forget to eat. Drinking, I forget that too. I could tell in my urine yesterday that I needed to step up my intake I just really am having a tough time. I can drink with ease...I just let the day go by at work and towards the end i realize it is 7pm, and I have had only a little bit of water and only a little bit of food.< /p>

Problem #2 - INCISION PAIN!!!! OMG!!! - Called the Doctor about it yesterday. I think he gets a lot of calls about pain so he acts a little like it is nothing, but seriously...THE PAIN under the big incision is like WOW!!!!!!! It is sharp. Of course I have no fever, no ooozzing....It seems like it is the stitches under the incision. I am sure I over did it, but this pain is not pleasant at all. My Doctor is like...It could be a hernia, but I doubt it. I said to him...Could it be infected because that is sort of what I feel...He goes...Possibly, but I doubt it. The way that he says it is too funny, but at the same time I am like...WTF. I need this pain to go away because until it does I ain't walking for NOBODY! OUCH!

The food thing is progressive, just do the best you can for now and follow the post op diet. . . you will eventually get there. . . I don't think anyone could get all that stuff into their tiny tummies at 17 days out. . . now that pain is a totally different story. . . I'd physically go over to the doctor and demand to be seen. . . I don't know what that would be but it doesn't sound normal. . . or go to the ER where you had the surgery and get seen there. . . good luck and let us know. . .

1. I wasn't eating anything like a boiled egg as early out as you are. Maybe if you add some mayo or runny yogurt for it to slide down may help (you do want slider foods at the mo while you've got so much swelling). Scrambled eggs would probably be better for you at this stage though.

You really need to work on getting in your fluids. Stuff like Soup counts and you really should be getting them in by the time you're 17 days out. Carry a bottle with you everywhere you go. A bottle with a sports cap is more likely to help you keep sipping. I have a cup on my desk and as soon as it starts getting low I pour some more Water out just to make sure I keep drinking.

Have you tried any Protein Drinks to help you get some more Protein in? Just buy small quantities/samples as most people have to try several to find something they really like.

2. Take your pain meds - I had stabbing pains until I was about a month out and I wished I'd taken more painkillers. I'd also see if you can see your PCP and if they can help, but I'd take whatever meds I'm allowed to take until seeing the doc.

I had one incision that looked pretty bad (ie a bit infected) until 10 days out which is when I managed to see my PCP and he looked and said it was fine. A day or 2 later I was able to agree with him, but your doc will have a better eye for post op incisions, so see him in person! wink.gif

Had the same problems! First thing I tried eating was an egg- it came right back up. I tried mashed potatoes, went down fine. The incision scar it hurt really bad as well, but I overdid it by swimming laps. After a couple of days or so, the pain just subsided. The doctor told me that it was normal. I haven't had any problems with it anymore. It may be spasms or something. You are still healing. That's the once scar my doctor's office forewarned me about!

It will get better everyday, but you have to keep a drink with you constantly to remind yourself to drink. Carry a bottle every where you go. I set the timer on my phone to remind myself to drink or eat. liquids are more important than Protein early out. But it takes planning to get everything in, especially if you are working. String cheese is a good thing to take.

I am not sure about the incision pain but it seems you would run fever with an infection. Maybe its the stich pulling or on a nerve. If it doesn't ease up, i would insist on treatment.

Congrats on being sleeved!! Just take everything one day at a time.

:)

At day 17, the pain is most likely from adhesion (strands of scar tissue). As the scar tissue grows and you move more, it tears. It's nothing to be alarmed over but it does hurt. It passes though. However, never hesitate to go the ER if you are concerned.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
