My husband was with me and waited on me hand and foot! To this day he brings me my first Protein Shake in the morning and a cooler with bottles of various things to drink to meet my Fluid requirements. I think part of the reason I have been able to get all my Protein and fluids since day five has been his support and help. Take help if you can get it!

Hubby was with me and I really did need him. The kids were gone the night before and of surgery and day after. He is home for the Summer so it has been wonderful. He kept track of my meds and made sure I took them every four hours. He helped me remember to drink all my fluids and the big thing is I've had BAD ab pain and he helped get the pillows under my belly if I was laying on my side (I can NOT seem to sleep on my back. Ugh!) for some support. He's also been errand boy.

I went to Mexico alone, flew home and drove myself home from the airport. I didn't have anyone with me but I did just fine, in fact I kind of liked the alone time a little - I don't do good with people hovering over me. :P

I'm 11 days out and I have had no one here with me. My dad picked up and did my laundry for me and one friend came and did my hair, but that was after that 3-4 day window. I was home, alone, and I was fine. I can understand why they might recommend having someone around, but being alone forced me to move, which is essential for expedited healing. I don't regret it. Plus, I didnt want anyone seeing me like that.

I love having my husband around...he's making me tea, heading out to the shops if I need anything, he even brought me fresh batteries when my mouse died (I have my computer set up on a rolling tray in the bedroom :D ) and in the condition I was in yesterday I would never have been able to make Soup or tea by myself.

I was lucky in that I got discharged from the hospital on a Saturday so we get to spend the weekend together, I think by Monday I'll be fine on my own, but yeah it definitely helps to have someone help you out for the first few days. If there's nobody, then you should be fine alone, just keep your mobile phone with you on the off chance you need emergency services.

With the world the way it is now, you can order groceries to be delivered online, same with pharmacies...you should be fine alone :)

Even though my husband was home the first day, I could not wait to send him back to work! He is useless and would complain when I asked for anything that did not have an easy open tab. Tea was out of the question. He had a hissy fit when he found out how the the blood thinner injections were at the pharmacy and embarrassed the hell out out. I was happy to have leave for work! I was fine, just sore and moved slow.

So it boils down to you, have you had surgery before? Are you a do it yourselfer? Is your husband go in these situations or more of a bother?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
