Weird Acid reflux

Recommended Posts

I used to have pretty bad acid reflux, especially at night while sleeping. Since surgery I haven't experienced any...until last night.

I was sleeved mid May, and am currently on Prevacid. I have been taking it every day and it's been working great. But yesterday morning, I was soo tired, and cold in my office, I caved and had a cup of coffee.< /p>

Last night, well this morning, around 430 am, I woke up to a choking feeling, and there was acid in my throat, I had to get up and cough it out, then drank some Water, finally had to take a few tums, which helped a little, but the acid came back slightly and I continued coughing for another 15 minutes, before being able to fall back asleep.

Has this happend to anyone else before? Do you think it was from the coffee that I had 17 hours earlier, or do you think it is something more serious?

Wow, you might want to run that by your primary care doctor..

I have acid reflux as well, had it for several years and am on previcid too.. .. I had "though" it would go away after surgery, it has calmed down some, but not gone away. I have noticed, that something I eat may be fine and sitting well in my tummy, but.... as soon as I add Water to it, boom.. it starts... I have gotten it from Crystal light too...

I am not complaining as it is much, much better than prior to sleeve..... but yes, I still have bouts. My primary doctor prescribed disolvable previcid - generic name: Lansoprazole ODT 30MG tablet - I have these for back up, when it kicks in I take the disolveable one as well as the daily capsule.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
