I feel weak! Suggestions PLEASE????

Recommended Posts

I had surgery last thursday morning and my post op diet calls for Clear liquids the first week. I've had enough Jello and propel Water and broth and sf popsicles to choke a horse.

I'm supposed to walk 30 mins a day but today, for the first time, I guess the 200 calories/per day diet is taking its toll and I feel too weak to think about going for a walk.

What can I do??? I'd KILL for a Protein Shake but that's not on my clear liquid list unfortunately!

Suggestions anyone??

I would be most grateful,

cathy

I had my surgery on Wednesday and I am also on the clears. I also feel weak and not up to doing much. Two more day until full liquids. I am feeling so tired and to top it off, I think I am getting a cold. Hang in there.

Cathy - ask your surgeon if clear liquid Protein is OK. "New Whey" makes a Protein bullet drink that are clear, IIRC. I don't know how it tastes. My parents (have both had WLS) add them to Crystal Light to thin them out - they are pretty thick. There is also a protein Water that Kellog makes, which I believe is clear.

The fatigue is not uncommon. You are eating a LOT fewer calories. You are also missing the sugar spikes you likely had before. It's also part of heling -- it takes a lot of energy to heal, and your body will prioritize healing itself over giving you an energized feeling. It will get better. Ironically, sometimes taking that walk that seems so impossible can help you feel more energetic (but it certainly isn't a guarantee). It is important to walk though, even just a little bit around the house.

thanks for that info Wheetsin! I think I may drive down to GNC and see if I can find some clear Liquid Protein there that I can put in my propel Water. That might help me.

I did try some Isopure which has a bunch of protein in it but it tastes NASTY and I just can't stomach it. I could yack just thinking about it!

Any chance you have any Unjury chicken Soup? ? That is allowed on clears! It has a lot of Protein in it. If not, you could go to the unjury website and order some to have on hand for later!

You could also get some Isopure drinks from GNC the Alpine Punch is ok. It is not the best tasting stuff, kinda dry, but it does help. It is in a glass jar, ready to drink. The grape frost is ok too.

Just know it does get better. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
