What does 'full' feel like?

Recommended Posts

I know this is a weird question but I just went to mushies and I'm not really sure what I am feeling. I am only having 2 oz of whatever and I don't really feel much different while eating than I do while drinking. However, I get towards the end of the 2 oz and start to feel a 'tightness'. Is this what I'm looking for? It doesnt hurt, just gets tighter. If I finish the 2 oz, like I did at dinner, I get a little flushed feeling. Is this normal?

Another question: Will I find a big difference when I convert to solid Proteins?

I think I am trying to compare the full feeling I used to get with my band to what I am feeling with the sleeve and its not even close. Thank you!

I am learning that it can be challenging to know when I'm full when I'm not eating slow enough. If I eat quickly, I'll find myself eating too much before I realize I"m full.

Don't know if that'll help you but it's just an observation I've made recently.

I am two weeks post op and am trying to figure out the same thing! Its a totally different feeling for me too and I never had a band. I'm not trying to go to the point of "hurt" but I would like to know what sensation I'm looking for!

I usually burp ;-P I found I need to pay attention to that or I will regret it. I ignored it once and everything came back up. Other report hiccuping, one person even sneezes! Not to be TMI nut it is not like a regular burp, it is a burp with a little of the flavor of what I am eating. It is so hard at frst1 you really have to listen to your body!

I am 7 weeks out tomorrow and believe that I really undereat my sleeve! I eat just until I am satisfied, never till full or eat all that I am supposed to. I am supposed to eat 1/2 c. at this point per meal and I never finish it. I have read so many stories of people taking one bite too many and regretting it! I am afraid of that, so I eat just until I am no longer hungry!

I have heard people say they get tightness in their chest, some hiccup and some burp. Others even say their nose runs. I seriously have had none of these because I quit before then!

Early out it hard to describe as I think it changes as you heal. Pay careful attention and chew well, tight is a good cue that you getting full. If you feel something in your chest just below the breast bone you are absolutely risking over full!

This is probably the one area where still being hungry can serve you well! Without hunger you do not have the "satisfied hunger" feeling so you really have to figure it out another way! I am not hungry when I start eating so I had to really tune in to what is going on. 1\I always start with 1/4 cup- can often eat it all but sometimes cannot- and really need to identify those times or else....

Most times I measure out about a 1/2 cup of food and try to finish it. My full signals are hiccups and a runny nose. I have learned to stop eating at the first hiccup. It typically happens when I am out to eat with other people. I think I eat faster and don't chew food as thoroughly. I can also drink Water right up to the first forkful of food, but then I have to stop. My stomach will feel tight and hurt a bit. I have also had a couple of episodes of "foamies." Lots of saliva production that needs to be spit out. When this happens, I excuse myself to the ladies room. Just getting up and walking seems to help as well. The foods that typically trigger this reaction are dense Protein like swiss steak, hamb patties, steak. However, I have also had episodes with scrambled eggs.

I have learned to eat slowly, chew my food longer, and stop eating at the first sign of hiccups. I also get up and walk a bit after eating. I hope this helps!

Full for me feels a lot like it did pre-surgery, but it sure comes on a lot faster and a lot harder. I can eat around 1/4 c. of food sometimes, but mostly I eat less than that because I don't like feeling "full." As I eat or drink, I burp a little with almost every swallow, which is new after surgery. When I can't burp, I know I'm done. Usually, I can tell when it's getting to the "point of no more burping," and I stop before I hit that--full feels good. Uncomfortably full does not feel good--it's like some food is caught in the space where the opening to the stomach closes--you can feel it in there, and it won't go down. It hurts, like an ache of something caught in your throat (because it is!), kind of right in the center and slightly lower than the junction of my neck and my body, high in the chest. I can definitely feel that I have overeaten, so I tend not to do that any more; pain is a great motivator, as is the desire to never throw up again in my entire life (had enough of that the first month before starting a PPI!).

Just eat slowly and pay attention to your body--be prepared for things to be different now, but it will become routine for you. No big deal with time.

Cheers!

Meg

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
