Are you having a surgery in a hospital and staying there for recovery? If so, it's probably too much. I stayed in my hospital gown the whole time I was in hospital (I used my personal dressing gown to cover the back). Maybe you could ring them and check. I also took books which I didn't read as I was so tired from surgery I was either walking the halls with my drip or in bed with my eyes closed.

I think you overpacked! I stayed in the hospital gown and wore a second one on backwards when I walked the halls to keep from flashing everyone. I didn't use a speck of makeup, read anything, text anybody or do much else. I assume you are going to Mexico for your surgery though and I went only a few miles away from my home and was in the hospital just one night. You probably will want something to read coming and going. Be sure you take something very loose and comfy for your trip home as your abdomen will be swollen and it is uncomfortable to wear something across it. Remember you are going to have to pull/carry the suitcase after surgery unless you have someone going with you. Good luck with your surgery! Post when you can and let us know how it went. :D

Ok thanks to both of you for the reply. Yes I'm going to Mexico & I'm going alone..I'm going to stay one night in the hospital and 2 nights at a hotel. I didn't wanna stay at the Recovery House. I'm going to take some of this clothes out. Thanks a bunch & I'll keep you posted on my journey!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
