Does Dr. Kelly put in a catheter or drain tube? I think I'm most freaked out about possibly having a catheter. I've never had any kind of surgery before so I'm completely new to this whole experience.

No cath but yes on the drain. It didn't hurt me at all when he removed the drain. I was surprised cuz I was expecting it to a little. He told me to take a deep breath, hold it, and it was out!! After that, the slight soreness (feels like i did a bunch of sit ups) was gone too! Dr Kelly really is great!

Thanks Kelly! I feel much better knowing I won't have to have anything shoved up my ****! That just seems SOOOO wrong! What exactly is the drain? Where does it come from? Where does it go? What's in it? When does it come out? (sounds kinda like the song "cotton eyed joe" - where did ya come from, where did ya go, where did ya come from cotton eyed joe) sorry...late night silly moment :P

Lol!!! It is a fairly small tube coming out of an incision in your tummy and hangs down. It has a little bulb thingy that collects Fluid from around your sleeve. They measure and collect this off and on. Its not that heavy. It sounds way worse than it actually is!

If they have to put a catheter in me, they'd better put it in and take it out while I'm under anesthesia, I don't want to be awake. (and I'm a RN.... LOL)

It's really not bad at all. And I'm an RN too ;)

Taking out both catheter and drain doesn't hurt, just feels a little strange!! Nothing to worry about.

I am happy to hear Dr. Kelly doesn't put in a cath! Sucks about a drain but I know most surgeries will have a drain afterward : / How long is the drain left in after surgery, do they remove it before you leave the hospital to go to the hotel?

I love caths. Nothing worse than not being able to go. Have had my share of surgeries, and had one in all of them IIRC.

Also had a drain post tummie-tuck that stayed in for weeks. Even went camping with it. Not a big deal at all.

I haven't been sleeved yet but I had another surgery in march and had a cath. Thankfully it was put in and taken out while I was still in the OR. However my handbook from my wlcenter says we will get a cath and it will stay in until the following day or on discharge. I hope it's not going to be bad to have taken out while I'm awake.
