Trying to find the best protein. (Duh moment)

Recommended Posts

Before and after surgery I was drinking 45-60 grams of Protein a day in a powder mix and skim milk (which added more protein as well). Then I found a convenient and tasty premixed Protein Drink that had 20g protein in each drink. So maybe 3 a day. After my weightloss slowed down some I decided I needed to cut my carbs down again like I did for my preop weightloss. I realized that skim milk has 13 g of carbs in every 8oz, and the convenient little Protein shakes had 20g carbs per container! So then I quit all that and tried to do low carb and high protein purely dietwise. But it was hard to get that much protein in like I had done before. Then I scoured the protein aisle at Target and found a low carb Protein shake. 17g of protein and 2g of carbs! I felt like such an idiot because it was probably right in front of my face the whole time. DUHHHH!!!

I found one at Rite Aid...Designer whey French vanilla. It has 18 grams of Protein and 2 grams of carbs. I am just five weeks out and so far I can't eat enough to get close to 60 grams of Protein. I mix it with Decaf, equal, three ice cubes and a bit of Torani Hazelnut SF Syrup. It tastes like a frappachino. I have also learned that GNC has a protein drink that is more like crystal light or Vitamin Water...it's called Isopure Zero Carb, it comes in twelve different flavors and I think it has 20 grams of protein. a

Whatever works for you is best! These shakes don't taste bad and I drink about 3 of them a day. I started these low carb ones yesterday and today the scale already went down a couple pounds! I had 3 of the low carb shakes during the day yesterday and then had a hamburger patty later on. It's weird how before surgery I was a carb-o-holic. Now I have no appetite for any kind of bread. Thank god for this sleeve!!!

I have yet to check out Target's Protein choices.. thanks for the suggestion.

I do the EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control - premixed, comes in a 4 pak, can get it at any Wal-Mart, Meijers Stores or GNC.

110 Calories - 17 g of Protein and 2 carbs. Comes in 4 different flavors, the Dark chocolate is great, I switch between that and the chocolate Fudge.

Also, I priced out buying it premixed 4 pak at Wal-Mart $4.39 a pack vs buying the powder and mixing it.. only saves like 10 cents a serving.. for 10 cents, I love the conveinence of premix.

Give it a try..
