I know what you guys that are heading into this are feeling. It's scary as hell. Elective surgery that has risks. Your putting yourself at a small risk to get your life back. IMHO it's worth it especially if your suffering from risk factors with kids. I ran a half mile tonight in 7 minutes without stopping. I know that's not breakneck speed but two months ago I couldn't sprint to first base playing softball without sucking air. A lady I havnt seen since before my surgery told me I looked like I was melting I had lost so much weight so quickly. Damn I feel good. sleep apnea is still messing with me but hopefully it will get better. I'm in a 36 Jean down from a 40 just 1 month ago. I honestly hope it slows down just a little. Lol

Start shopping at thrift stores (if you aren't already!) Good deals and it won't hurt as much in the pocketbook as you shrink.

I've also been running, something I haven't been able to do for too many years. I can go a mile non stop and the time is coming down. I'm liking the new me.

Tex - Glad to hear you are having such great results. Now that the surgery is behind you and you are doing great, what does your wife think? I imagine she and the kids are enjoying the smaller, healthier version of you. :)

Hi! I was sleeved on august 16th. So far, everything is going well. With the problems you listed, I commend you for taking this leap of faith! It is scary, but in the end you will be glad you did! So, take a deep breath and go for it! I read every post op post and painted a worst case scenario and still did not change my mind. My recovery so far has proven what my gut told me, I need this procedure and will deal with each problem as it comes. Hang in there and keep reminding yourself why you decided to do this in the first place, ok? It will be ok in the end. Best of luck to you and keep us posted, ok?

I too is a Texan (well transported) but Texas is home. I had all those illness and they are ALL GONE. They went away with the weight and that will happen to you. Fear is human, just pull a Nike - Just Do It and will be fine.

Tex, your story encourages me. I'm getting sleeved by Dr Kim at Forest Park Medical on Oct. 31. I have never had surgery and I'm terrified but also can't wait at the same time.

I have 4 small kids so I know how you felt. I feel like I should write them each a letter in case I die on the table!

Great Job, keep it up Tex. We have been given such a great tool to change our lives. Like an earlier post said, the thrift stores are your friend, we lose so rapidly, we would go broke buying new clothes before we reach our goal. I might not ever stop shopping there. I buy like new Polo, Cutter and Buck, Eddie Bauer and much more for about 4.00 a shirt. I have gone from a 4x shirt to a 1x and 52 pant to 42 right now. I buy the clothes at the thrift shop and then take them back and donate them in about a month and get a smaller size. Congrats on onederland, that is my goal, that is what I was thinking about while I was at the gym at 5:00am this morning.

Your success mirrors mine. I lost and passed my goal. My weight loss has ended and my lowest was 180.4 and I now hover around 183. I feel great. It's a little odd now when I look at pictures from last year and hardly recognize the person that I was.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
