Khy 16 Posted June 24, 2011 Called Aetna to check on the status of the precert. Took along time just to figure out how to talk to a real person...so how often should I bug them about the status? They told me not to call back for a week and 1/2. They woudn't know anything until then. I was thinking maybe every other day would be ok or is that too often? former_vbg 198 Posted July 4, 2011 When I was going through the original approval process in early May, I learned from someone in their pre-cert department that their turn around time goes up quite a bit once summer hits because more people are on vacation, changing work schedules, etc... and so what normally takes them 3 to 5 days can take 2 weeks or longer this time of year unfortunately. Not saying that will always be the case, but just thought that might help. I was approved within 3 days when I was first submitted- then had to change docs 2 weeks before surgery as I found out he was engaged with insurance fraud and then the new doc submitted and it took them almost 5 days but i attribute that to the ignorance of the woman doing the pre-certs for that docs office. She wanted to argue how I hadn't met Aetna's requirements and I told her I obviously had because I was already approved- just with a different doctor. These people don't know everything. You have to be your OWN advocate and babysit everything unfortunately. Called Aetna to check on the status of the precert. treequeen 13 Posted July 5, 2011 after the seminar, I called aetna to see is sleeve was covered. They connected me with a woman who had the RNY who answered a lot of my questions on the phone that day (about an hour on the phone).. She sent me an email with all her info and links to helpful websites so I could research. We have been emailing since December. My surgeons office sent my paperwork directly to her and I was approved in 4 days... Wonder why they didn't get you to someone you could have a conversation with. Not sure if my lady can help you but if you want her info, PM me.
