Hi All - My surgery is scheduled for Monday and I'm really ready for this. I've been pretty good with the 2 week pre-op diet. I did fudge a little bit but in the scheme of things, that cheat was nothing. Guess what? I ate some plain greek yogurt in place of a shake a couple of times and I had some Tomato Soup just for a change - These items were not on the sheet. Even so, I've lost 15 pounds in 11 days. Not bad for someone who usually takes 2 months to lose 5 pounds! Anyway, any advice on how to prepare for Monday, what should I take with me to the hospital? what should I have ready at home? Will I need much help and for how long? I live alone and have a little dog. Anything will be appreciated, prayers too.

I'm scheduled for July 4, gastric plication with dr. Ponce de leon, I have read you should take : Gas-X strips and Sleep-Ease strips.......I think you will be fine when you get home, get some treats for your faithful little dog who will be your best companion during that time..

B.,

I am scheduled the day after you.

I am taking my crocs so I have some slip on shoes so I do not have to bend over when they want me to go on walks also taking loose fitting clothes so the I do not have to stay in the gown as long (I respect the world and it should not have to see my backside). I will also be taking a chronicles of Amber book that I got at half price book store and taking my iPhone w/ headphones for music and watching Netflix, I will also probably bring a toothbrush (I am not eating, but who knows what my breath will be like - and everything else is a no-no... As far as a hairbrush goes - I do not need one lol, but you might want one for your trip home.

I think everyone's recovery period is different - my surgeon (and everything I have read on here) is the more you excercise and move before surgery the quicker your recovery will be. My doctor also told me it is not so much the pain per se that is the tough part of the recovery, it is the adjustment to the calorie restrictions - we will be very tired the first few weeks and then find we have more energy than we did prior to surgery once our bodies accomodate.

I will pray for you on Monday that you have a succesful surgery and a recovery that surprises you in how easy it actually was!

How exciting! You are doing excellent with the pre-op…hell, I ate a hamburger during mine.

All I took was my photo ID/insurance card, my phone (downloaded with Pandora), my pillow and a ponytail holder. The only thing I wished I’d brought was my wide-toothed comb b/c I can’t even get those little ones through my curly mop. Be sure to wear comfy, loose clothes…and no need for a change of clothes b/c you won’t wear them long after arrival, and they’ll be packed into a bag for the return home. Some people bring their own pajamas but to me, with the IV tubing and all it’s easier to wear the gown.

For home I just made sure I had skim milk, Protein powders, G2 (Gatorade), yogurt, pudding, cream Soups, and ice made for Protein shakes. I wasn’t sure if I would have enough but now with 5 days left of liquids I know there was more than enough.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
