HUGE BELLY HANGING DOWN

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been exercizing regularly, am feeling stronger and more confident. However, I have this huge belly that hangs down, I have to wear tunics in order to conceal it. I wear full briefs but it won't cover that area that comes out through the sides. Panty girdles don't help as the weight of the belly pulls it down so that it won't do much good. Does anyone have any suggestions about the best type of underwear for this? I was thinking maybe the boyshorts style, I haven't tried those. I still have a lot more weight to lose so I can't consider plastic surgery for now, probably not ever as I have limited funds.

I would welcome any suggestions from people who have this same problem. I live alone, no one sees what I look like without clothes on, but I'm terrified of being seen this way by accident, in a fitting room or beach.

What about compression shorts? Under Armour makes them ( I am sure others do too but I am familiar with UA). Both my boys wear them for sports...football, track, wrestling.....they come in both mens and womens.....good luck!!!!

If someone should accidently see you in a changing room, and happen to notice your stomach apron, I bet they would think "Wow, that lady has lost a bunch of weight. Way to go! I wish I could lose weight like that."

I don't think we need to be embarrassed about things like that any more than an amputee should be embarrassed by his / her missing limb.

I think a person who would think less of you for having a stomach apron needs to turn her hyper-critical mirror around and look at her own self. I know of at least ONE flaw that would be shining out visibly - her small and narrow mind.

I like the Shapewear tanks that go down to your tighs. Walmart (Danckins) and Maidenform carry leggings and pants and capris with tummy control that works well. As far as panties I like the boy shorts.

Thank you for your responses. I have purchased the Shapewear tank tops and they are fabulous. A lot more comfortable than the way they were made years ago.

I just purchased some Maidenform boyshorts. They concealed the skin showing through which is what I wanted, there isn't much I can do about the belly hanging as it drags down anything I put on. , unless I purchased a one piece and it's too hot right now for that.

On a daily basis I wear 3 major things under my regular clothes.

First I put on a back smoother bra the one I love is Lane Bryant's they are buy 2 get 2 free right now...hop on that deal!!!

http://www.lanebryant.com/smooth-balconette-bra/p36851/index.pro

2nd I wear Spanx Slimplicity Open-Bust Mid-Thigh Bodysuit

http://www.spanx.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10918464&cp=2992553.11308615&parentPage=family

This is so worth the price but hand wash them and they will last you

only draw back is having to take shirts off in order to poo but these have a gusset and you can tinkle in them and no you don't really pee on them but it is something you have to get use to it's kinda yuck at first but now I love the gusset.

3rd I wear Spanx

On Top and In Control Essential 3/4 Sleeve Bateau

http://www.spanx.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4148071&cp=2992556.11249345&ab=app_cat_sec1_4.28&parentPage=family

These give the look of having slender arms. Even in 103 degree weather I wear them and let me tell you, you sweat in these the same as if you did not have them on. The only difference is that they absorb the sweat rather than having your clothes get wet with sweat. LOVE LOVE LOVE these attached is a photo of me without them and with them, you'll be sold on these too

Here i'm wearing it with a sleeveless halter dress

here i'm wearing the spanx on top and in control 3/4 sleeve by itself with a skirt and a belt, looks like a dress right?

Thank you loquaciouslaura. btw you look fabulous.

Thank You!

I know you said "I can't consider plastic surgery for now, probably not ever as I have limited funds." here's some info that can be helpful to you and others as well. Lots of insurance companies do cover plastics after weight loss surgery. They must be medically necessary so have your pcp write a referral to a surgeon, Have your pcp document any issues related to the loose skin...rashes (keep receipts for creams too) or neck and back pain, etc. photos of the rashes are very helpful in getting approvals. Do not refer to it as plastics or cosmetic surgery, it is body contouring after massive weight loss.

I went to a plastic surgeon Thursday and now waiting for pre-authorization from my insurance co for plastics. Passing along the cpt codes... you can call your ins co and ask if the codes are covered...if you ask about the procedures the operators always say no cause they don't know any better. Mastoplexy (breast lift) "cpt code 19316", Brachioplasty (arm lift) "cpt code 15836", Thigh lift "cpt code 15823", panniculectomy (tummy tuck w/no muscle reconstruction) "cpt code 15830".

Again don't call there and ask "is plastic surgery covered" the operators are not the ones who know...they simply are call center operators that can relay info from your file or their computer and can change pcp, address, etc info in your account. They are not experts they use a intranet to search for the answers to your questions. A middle man so to speak. They do not make the decisions they can pretty much only change your pcp or give you info based on what is in your file. Pretty much all you do is call get a rep and say "i am interested in finding out if some procedures are covered, i have the CPT codes" They will be more than happy to give you the answers because you have done half the work by having the CPT codes ready for them. Let me know how it goes. Be sure to ask the % covered some are 80/20 mine is 100% with a $250 co pay after my high deductible is met which it is my daughters are having their tonsils removed this year.

I am pursuing brachioplasty and mastoplexy and my surgeon is going to zig zag the scar in my armpit so he can pull the bra back skin into it and make it one long scar from my inner elbow into my armpit and down under my breast and up to center so it's back breast and arm all at one time. One procedure one long scar on either side which i am fine with. better than 3 different procedures.

Let me know how it goes if you call your ins co.

You might try a shop that sells maternity stuff. When I was pregnant, I had bought this sort of panty girdle that had a special thing for holding and supporting the stomach, that might be some help to you. I am going to have to look through my stuff and see if I can find mine, I hope I didn't throw/give it away.

www.justmysize.com has them also for $4.99 .... I wear them under jeans, dress, under workout clothes, etc. A side note: They are tighter than stockings, but worth it. Helps with the inside of my thighs and butt not to jiggle as much (or not at all). I love they way they make feel.

You can find them in the section of the catalog for stocking and online search leggins or tights.

I like the Shapewear tanks that go down to your tighs. Walmart (Danckins) and Maidenform carry leggings and pants and capris with tummy control that works well. As far as panties I like the boy shorts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
