I promise it will get better. I was very afraid and scared of the huge changes that were to come. My BMI was 37 and didn't have any coomorbidities, so I was thinking that I could cancel the surgery and do it on my own. Add being an ICU nurse that only sees abdominal surgeries that go wrong, I wanted to get back on the plane and go home. It has been almost 6 weeks and I am 30 lbs down. I would do it over again, even though it is one of the reasons my marriage is ending. You are doing this to live a better and healthier life. It doesen't mean you won't eat things you want anymore, just less of it. Good luck! I am praying for you.

I was scared silly until right before, then I was calm, then scared again. LOL You'll do fine and you'll be so proud of yourself for going through with it instead of chickening out and playing the "what if...." game for the rest of your life.

I think it is normal to be scared. After all, this is a major surgery leading to a major change in lifestyle. Change is always scary. But you can do it! Just remember the reasons why you are doing this. Good luck with the surgery!

I started having panic attacks about 3 days before, on Thursday I actually dialed the number to cancel my Tuesday surgery, but the nurse was gone for the day. By Friday morning, I had calmed down. Saturday night nervous again. By surgery day I was calm and knew I was doing this for all the right reasons. Everyone goes thru the nerves stage, but take a few deep breaths, reason with yourself, and move on. It will all be fine! You will do great!

Thank you guys for your words....I am home now , they kept me an extra day due to dry heaving. I told them it was from the nausea medication and sure enough when they stopped all meds I felt fine. I went in with migrane and nausea and they actually considered cancelling because it might be an underlying issue. I said no please dont lol...Anyways feel great today and down 10 pounds since friday, thank you to everyone that has giving me guidance and kind thoughts. So glad to be on the new road together....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
