I was just wondering what kind of pre surgery testing ur doc had u do. Mine is having me do an EGD and a sleep apnea test and a stress test. What did y'all have to do? My cousin is having the same surgery but different doc and she doesn't have to do the sleep study. Just curious.

I am having my EGD tomorrow. I don't have to do the sleep study because I was previously diagnosed with sleep apnea. I have already had an ultrasound of the gallbladder and a complete blood workup including Vitamin assay and an urine sample taken.

I'm anticipating a couple more tests - like EKG and perhaps another round of blood tests shortly before the actual surgery - but I don't know that for sure. I hope to find out for sure on Monday.

What tests each doctor orders is different and it is partially based on the patient's history too. It's not surprising that many of us have different tests. I know some on here have to have pulmonary and cardiac clearances - I didn't because I don't have any issues that way.

Hi,

Each of us are different with our co-morbidities, health risks and weight. The doctors &/or hospitals are all different with thier requirements. As long as you have faith in your doctor that is preforming your surgery, you will be all set.

All doctors are different with their pre-op diets, post op diets, how long you stay in hospital, if drain tube is used and if so when it comes out,, your limitatons post op on what you can do and cannot do... Each doctor has thier own guidelines.

I had only the eco and advance blood testing... but I did not have diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep acnea, no other side issues other than being bigger than life and unable to lose wieight.

Good luck

I had to do lots of bloodwork, a nictoene test, pregnancy test, h pylori testing, EGD, Upper GI.

That was it!

Kelly

Hi Kelly, I was wondering what tests Kaiser requires. I guess you answered my question. So, how bad was the EGD and Upper GI? :(

Thanks,

Shell

I only had the routine pre-op stuff the morning of surgery - chest xray, EKG and labs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
