who's gone and had a good experience in mexico?

Recommended Posts

i'm going to Dr. Kelly in Tijuana on the 8th of next month. I'll keep you updated on how things go. So far i've only heard lovely things about him, and I'm excited to go. He cost 5,500 which was what caught my attention but before i learned about Dr. Kelly I was going to have surgery with Dr. Aceves. He is also an amazing doctor. I'm just trying to save as much as I can because I plan to have plastic surgery and I'm trying not to spend more than 12 or 13,000 for this whole experience.

Seriously considering surgery in Mexico but i need to hear back from more people and hear about your experiences. I have to self pay and 5500 is alot more affordable than 12000. So please tell me what doctors you used how you came across the information, Please and thanks.

Hi

This is something I wrote before, but I thought it would help you with any questions you might have. When it comes to weight loss surgery, you want the best. It really isn't time to be price shopping. I highly suggest you look at all the great things said about Dr. Aceves. He is the BEST their is. I am happy to answer any of your questions that you might have.

It is never too late in life to consider having WLS (Weight Loss Surgery). I am a 63 years old. I never had a weight problem until after having two children. And then I seemed to struggle with being overweight. I now know all the reason why, I became less active, and ate more than I should have. I have tried most of the diets that you have tried, some with success and most no success. But, I would always manage to gain the weight back because I NEVER changed my lifestyle. My top weight was 225 lbs and I am 5’3” tall. My body hurt, my back ached and I had a pain in my leg that felt like I had a hot poker burning me most of the time. So I must have had a high tolerance for pain. I worked with a friend and noticed that she had lost weight, so I started asking her questions. Then she told me about going to Dr. Aceves, MD. She is a nurse and I really trusted what she was telling me. She directed me to his Web Site and then to the Yahoo Support Group site. I researched WLS for about 6 months before I made a choice. I sat and watched the people on the Yahoo Support Group and never said much for quite sometime. Now I have learned that is pretty normal. Then I was sure I want to have WLS and my choice was VGS –referred to as the “Sleeve.” So that is the start of my Weight loss journey.

I just didn’t wake up one morning and say “oh in October I am going to have WLS.” I went through a process of getting here. I believe you have to have your “head” in the right place for this to be successful. I knew my head was in the right place, when I put myself ahead of everyone else. So many of us are care takers of everyone else and we come so far down on the list of taking care of ourselves. Be prepared for the opposition that you may face from your own family and friends. I believe that we really need to educate them so that they know exactly what we are doing and how safe it is. But this is about YOU and NO one else. You have to be willing to stand up for yourself; you have earned the right to do this. Believe in yourself enough and want this enough to be successful. I felt awful, I hated my body, and I wanted to be healthy again.

About 4 years ago I met and fell in love with the most wonderful man. I had been single for 16 years. He is an amazing man and loved me for just who I was—overweight. He has been very supportive and encouraging every step of they way. I can’t begin to tell you all the beautiful and wonderful comments that he give me. I had the surgery because I wanted to become healthy and wanted the opportunity to spend the rest of my life with Bob.

My weight loss journey has been incredible, and I have learned so many things about myself. food is no longer my driving force. I eat to live not live to eat! When I eat, I actually think about putting good and healthy foods into my (new) 63 yr old body! What a thought. I look for the Protein first because I try to make sure I get 70 grams of Protein and then my veggies and some fruit each day. I started keeping track on line what I was actually putting in my body so I would have some idea of the number of calories I was eating each day.

Hey Melissa!

Notice your surger is tomorrow with Dr. Kelly. God bless. I am sure everything will go fine. My friend and I are scheduled with Dr. Kelly in September. We will look forward to your post.

ME! I had a positive experience -- funny, but positive. I wrote about it in the "Tell your story" section under "It will kick your butt".

Enjoy!

I say Dr. Aceves all the way. I was able to get direct flights to San Diego where his driver picks you up and I never once felt this was wrong for me. Of course it is up to you as to who you feel comfortable with. You will have support no matter the surgeon you choose on here. Keep us posted.

Well I can tell you that I was back to work in 6 days. I had the surgery Thursday June 23 and returned on Wednesday June 29th. Just keep in mind that everyone is different. Also, I saw you mentioned plane costs from San Diego. Dr. Aceves driver picked me up in San Diego and then drove me to Mexicali. If you live in San Diego then you would not have to fly at all. Just a suggestion. I know for me the 3 hour flight from San Diego back to Houston was a bit uncomfortable in those small/hard seats, LOL. Good luck to you!

I used Dr. Aceves also. I cannot say enough good things about him. My VSG surgery in Mexicali was the best surgical experience I have had to date. He is more than $5500 but you get a full hospital with ER and 3 nights there in the hospital and as Foxbins said, the Dr's come around to see you often. I got visited 3 times a day. Experience counts, too.

There are 1 or 2 on this board that don't like it when Dr. Aceves' patients sing his praises and have even accused us of being paid. I can assure you I have not been paid. When I have a good experience and someone ASKS for information, I am just happy to share. But whataya gonna do? There are negative nellys everywhere you go. Maybe they are just mad they spent more and did not get any better care, and with a probably less experienced surgeon. Who knows?

Just do your research on ALL of the Drs and make an informed decision. That is what I did. I read about every Dr I could and made my decision accordingly.

Good luck to you!smile.gif

Hi,

I smiled to myself when you said you had been accused of being paid because you praised Dr. Aceves and your care. Me too. And being like you are if you ASK me then I will tell you. I also feel a need to make them aware of the difference of being cared for in a CLINIC and the sending them to a HOTEL to recover vs the care we received in a top of the line FULL hospital. NOT good at all to have the surgery done in a clinic and then go to a hotel--no wonder it costs less. So like you I speak up and speak OUT.

I think we had the very best care there is and there is NO getting around it.

Hugs,

Suzanne

I had a great time and good memories. I personally don't like staying in a hospital so FOR ME, the transfer to the recovery house was ideal. I could move around as I pleased.

In the U.S. I had major surgery on my face for skin cancer. 1 hour after surgery I was moved to a hospitality house for 48 hours. I got spoiled and loved the fact that I had choices.

So again, FOR ME, there was NO problem recovering elsewhere. Made some really good friends too.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
