forwhtitzwrth 0 Posted July 6, 2006 This is going to sound really stupid but here goes.....I keep reading about chewable Vitamins, is it hard to swallow pills after banding? (i have not been banded yet)
giveyouthemoon 4 Posted July 6, 2006 It can be. Vitamin pills can be HUGE and hard to get down. Others have no troubles. Personally I can't do anything larger than a standard capsule. But I can get my meds down ok. I do a great chewable vitamin too.
barbara465 2 Posted July 6, 2006 My doctor insists that everything be crushed. I crush mine daily and take with a little yogurt or in my Protein Drink. I also do the chewable vitamins and liquid vitamins when I need to.
juliegeraci 7 Posted July 6, 2006 I use a chewable Vitamin from GNC which takes like orange. All of my meds go down fine. I split one of them, Wellbutrin. I you have to split any pills talk to your pharmacist to see if they are splittable. Some are not due to chemistry.
ralheit 1 Posted July 6, 2006 My doctor required crushing pills for the 1st 6 weeks. I don't have any problem getting them down now. I just started using the chewable vitamins and haven't stopped.
Mystyblu 0 Posted July 6, 2006 My doctor request that I crush my meds. You just have to make sure that they are not time release meds. Always talk to your pharmasist. I also take a liquid vitamins
HeatherGurl 0 Posted July 10, 2006 My surgeon recommended not swallowing anything larger than a Birth Control pill. He said to get everything in liquid or chewable form. My PCP absolutely doesn't want me crushing pills or even breaking them in half. He says you aren't really getting the full amounts if you do that...
gentlespirit 1 Posted July 11, 2006 Prior to surgery, we had to see the bariatric program's pharmacist who checked out meds and figured out how we could get them in without any problems. They switched me to 2 lower dose pills of Wellbutrin rather than the one larger one, I split my Lexapro tablets, and I take Viactiv chewable Vitamins and Calcium. The only thing I have to grind up is a great multi mineral, and I take that in a spoonful of applesauce. I really don't want any meds to get stuck, so I stick with what I was told to do. juliek 0 Posted July 11, 2006 Some larger pills can be hard to swallow and trust me when I say you don't want one to get stuck. Nothing worse then undigested meds coming back the other way, not to mention the pain of the stuck pill. I now get any antibotic I take in liquid.
Fat2Phat 0 Posted July 12, 2006 My doc told me that I shouldn't swallow anything larger than a plain m&m. So, I am trying to do more chewable and liquid. But as everyone has said, everyone is different.
