i just joined today. a little bit about myself. I am a 51 y/o married male that is a 7 1/2 year cancer survivor that decided if i can beat cancer then i can beat morbid obesity. i had my sleeve done 3-2-11 by Dr. Josh Roller in northwest Arkansas. i can't say enough about Dr. Roller other than if you need WLS and live anywhere nearby he is your man. in the 3 months since my surgery i have lost as of today 83 lbs. that puts me just 65lbs from my goal. In the last 3 months the changes in my life have been profound. simple things like looking down and seeing if your shoes are tied without having to move your foot forward, going to your favorite place to eat and watching the waitresses bringing out food for other customers and realizing that 4 or 5 months ago that was your dinner and how the hell did you eat all of that junk. i have cut out almost all of my prescription meds and haven't felt this good since i was a teen many moons ago. my wife is going through the same thing as she had RNY 3 months before my surgery. it has been a journey that has brought us closer together in more than one way. hey i can now put my arms all the way around her and clasp my hands. and she can do the same on me. the only down side has been both of us having to start replacing all of our clothes. and although expensive this is really a good thing that i will gladly pay for. But like a lot of you there is no amount of research that can truly prepare you for the changes to your life that VSG will cause. So as we go through this journey its nice to have a place to go and mine for more info to make the trip easier. So thank you for allowing me to join you here and if i can be of any help to someone out there just ask.

Hi David, I am also a cancer survivor. My battle ended in 2009, but then I had to face the fact that my health was still at risk with my weight and diabetes problems. So cheers to all of us who refuse to quit---and keep fighting for our health! I look forward to hearing more from you in the forums.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
