Experienced Sleevers Please Help

Recommended Posts

I am hoping that some experienced sleevers will take a few minutes and give me a sample menu of what you eat in a day. I am starting regular foods tomorrow and I am not sure what to eat. I am clear to eat anything now but I'm just not sure how to start. I would love to see what you eat/ate and how much and how often.

This is a sample day of what I eat right now on soft foods:

I have a hard time getting much of anything in me at a time. I have 2 Protein Drinks a day which is a total of 80 grams of Protein.< /p>

Breakfast: Protein Drink, mixed in 15 oz Water, takes about 20 minutes to drink. I have a hard time eating anything in the morning and the protein drink seems to be best for me, I was the same way bf surgery.

Snack: String cheese

Lunch:1/2 cup refried Beans with cheese and greek yogurt. It takes me at least an hour to eat this usually longer and I can't usually finish it all

Snack: A few bites of watermelon or another string cheese

Dinner: Not hungry at all but make myself have a few bites of Soup and cottage cheese

Snack: Protein Drink

In addition to this I also drink at least 60 oz. of water a day and have a couple of sugar freepopsicles.

What do you think? How can I incorporate regular foods in my diet and still get all of the protein I need? I am nervous bc I can't eat very much at one time, although I can drink just fine.

Looks like you have a handle on it already. I eat pretty much the same type of stuff. I might have a hard boiled egg for Breakfast or one sausage patty, a few saltines for a snack (low cal and settles my tummy), 1/2 cup Soup, or some small amount of a prepared meal for lunch, maybe a SF pudding cup or yogurt for lunch. A few crackers for a snack (I'm not a big snacker). Supper is more of the same as for lunch. Portions are small and I rarely exceed 1100 calories a day for intake. I am unlike many others and don't fret the carbs, they are relatively low due to small amount of chow I eat a day, I personally think it's the over all calorie intake that really matters.

I find that journaling my intake is helpful and keeps me from indulging too much, I guess it forces me to be accountable to myself. I use MyFittnessPal.com, there are DOZENS of other free one online and may have smart phone apps as well.

I agree with Rootman, you are off to a good start. Kudos to you for getting in your liquids, that is really hard to do. I usually eat a scrambled egg or a one-egg omelot with cilantro, a sprinkle of veggies or cheese in it for Breakfast. I haven't been a big fan of any of the Protein drinks. I eat whatever I want, but always make sure that I start the meal with Protein and then eat whatever else after that so if I get full, at least it I got the protein in. I also agree with Rootman about the carbs, I don't count them at all, I pay more attention to the calories for the day. I average anywhere from 800 on a low day to 1200 on a big eating day. I love, love, love MyFitnessPal.com too! They have an app you can put on your phone and it is so great. My phone can actually scan the bar-codes of things and will find the exact food that way.

You will do fine, it takes a bit, but you will find the things that you like to eat and pretty soon you won't worry so much about it. You said that you were worried because you can't eat very much at a time. That is still the old you thinking that way, where we were so hungry if we didn't just plow through and inhale everything. Eat slow, and listen to your tummy. When it feels full, stop. You can eat more later if you want, don't try to finish things just because that is what we are programmed to do. :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
