New Guy in Town

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I received a link to this site from a coworker. Both of us are on the Sleeve journey.

I had my seminar 4/23. On 6/6, I had my psych and nutritional evaluations. Got clearance from my PCP on 6/10. All I am waiting for bloodwork results and insurance clearance to get on with the big day. We have great insurance through work, so it is more formality at this point. When I went for my initial consult, I weighed in at 411lbs. Since then, I have lost 10lbs, so I am pretty pumped about that.

I am working with Bluegrass Bariatric Associates (Dr. Oldham) in Louisville.

I look forward to being part of the gang here.

-Pete

Welcome aboard,

this site is amazing. And you will get almost every answer you ever dreamed of asking in this forum. My surgery is 3 days away and I feel like I am fully prepared and 90% percent of it came from reading everyones journey....Good luck on yours and send your prayers to those that are going to be seated on the losers bench soon.

Welcome Pete!

VST is the place to learn the nitty gritty about life with the sleeve. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Tomorrow is 3 weeks since my surgery and so far so good. I am finally eating mushy foods and can tolerate

about 1 tablespoon of food per meal. I'm sure after my swelling goes away I will be able to eat slightly more -- the key is to remember you can't eat the way you did pre sleeve. You must eat slowly and in little tiny bits too see how much you can have...I find I can go from feeling okay to feeling I'm about to slime in a matter of seconds.

The hardest part is realizing that just because the food tastes good in my mouth doesn't mean my stomach is going to feel the same way. Finding that sweet spot is going to take patience.

I look forward to seeing you on the loser's bench!

EJ

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
