Vegaswildflower 0 Posted July 6, 2006 I’m getting a bit frustrated and I wanted to hear from the people, I’m about 3.5 months out, eating reg food, and have lost about 30 lbs.. I’ve had three fills ., just lately I’ve had allot more restriction, my last fill was 8 weeks ago, but just in the last 2 weeks I’ve really had a increase in my restriction.. that’s great I know you will all agree, but I’m having allot of trouble with PB and slime, about 5 bites into my dinner, I gat the " sign" that stuckness in your chest.. I sit back wait a couple a minutes and work through it only for it to get worse, gurgling,, burping and pain, the pain.. My husband was in the car with me the last time and I thought he was going to take me to the ER... I have found the solution to my problem is in the ladies room, that porcelain throne I pose myself over and I swear what looks like a 1/3 of a cup of slime comes up.. A little bit of food, but mostly slime... and it’s like instant releif... now after about three days of this happening I’m starting to get concerned, why does this Slime ball happen, what can I do to avoid it, is this how a slip happens, id retching the best way to deal with it? Help a girl out... or the attendant in the ladies room is going to turn me in.. to the bulimic intervention people.
MelodyJ 0 Posted July 6, 2006 You are eating too big of bites....too fast!! I know from PERSONAL experience!! You have to eat bites equal to or smaller than a pencil eraser and chew to goo!! It's not good to keep doing this...it can cause band slippage!!!! The best treatment is prevention---don't let it happen....slow way down!!!! You can do it!!!! :grouphug: God Bless, Melody Banded 3/20/06 -54lbs
S@ssen@ch 745 Posted July 6, 2006 First, you need to make sure you're taking small bites, chesing them well enough and allowing enough time in between bites. I can't say that this is what's causing the problem, but it sure does sound like it may have started it. Second, once you started this irritation it's like a domino effect. The irritation causes swelling which makes you basically tighter because of the swelling. After you have a PB, you need to give your body a break. Drop back a food level until the irritation has resolved itself even if it takes a day or two. My recommendation would be to go back to either liquids or mushies for a day or two then work back up to regular foods before you try it again. For your question on why this happens...........when something is caught or stuck in what we call the stoma (the area of the stomach where the band has made your stomach tighter) the stomach produces lots of mucous/slime to help lubricate whatever it is that is stuck and help it move. Often, that mucous only backs up and needs to come back up hence the sliming that you cough up. Sometimes it works and helps the item pass. By retching, you bring up the offending item (and the slime). The retching is contractions of the stomach trying to bring the article up. It puts you at risk of band slippage if done too frequently. If you are somehow causing the retching, and you are doing it regularly, please reconsider. See the advice I posted at the top and if it doesn't help stop this, contact your doctor......you may be just a tad too tight.
princess_n_thep 2 Posted July 6, 2006 Yep, what they said. Slowwwwwwwwww down. Try eating with baby untensils until you get the hang of it. That worked great for me.
Marimaru 7 Posted July 6, 2006 On top of what everyone else said, each time your level of restriction changes, what you are going to be able to eat will change as well. Make sure you aren't trying things that are just 'trouble'!

MelodyJ 0 Posted July 9, 2006 Cheryl-- You may be too tight or just swollen....I am on liquids from a fill last Weds. They told me 4 days--2 of Clear Liquids and 2 of full liquids. Everytime you vomit swells everything again! So...... I reminded myself and my husband that I was on liquids 3 weeks when I was banded....that I just have to go slower....if this doesn't settle things down in a week then I will call and get unfilled! Hoping this helps.... God Bless, Melody Banded 3/20/06 -59lbs
