When I was still in Mexicali, my surgeon gave me the dissolvable Nexium tablets and I just dissolved them in juice. Then when those ran out, my Dr at home gave me Nexium granules to mix with Water or juice. I could hardly handle that though, those little buggers are soooo bitter if one gets left behind in your mouth. The Nexium I take now is a teeny tiny capsule and I think I could have started taking it way sooner than I did. Ask your Dr about the granules though.

Right after surgery I had the same Nexium as Disney. After that ran out, I used OTC Prilosec which is a really little pill. Now I take the generic Prilosec and it's still pretty small.

Do people generally stay on these medications after the sleeve? I had horrible heartburn w/ the band & after. Ironically, never had it before the band. Is this something that you are more prone to after the sleeve?

It seems from what folks say here that most of us are on an acid reducer a minimum of six months after the sleeve and many stay on them long term.

My dr. told me that reflux could get worse and if you don't have it you could develop it. I took nexium for years before surgery and this was a BIG issue for him with me. I have had no real issues with my reflux since surgery.

I do still take my nexium and will continue to take it, but I am glad becuase I was fearful that I was going to be really sick with acid issues.

I was sleeved on Tues June 28 and I just got prescribed Nexium due to an awful night. I couldn't sleep because I had a feeling in my stomach that would come up but I never threw up...I called my doctor and he prescribed this. Hopefully, with this pill, it'll help me because last night was no picnic. I wonder why he didn't prescribe this medication when I left the hospital?

Why don't you ask him at your follow-up appointment? Also, I'd ask how long he expects you will need to take it. My doc said "at least three months" but he prescribed it after surgery and at 3 months I stopped, got reflux again, and went back on it with no problems.

They have solu-tabs, but my insurance gave me grief (they paid for the whole revision surgery but gave me grief about the ant-acid). ....So I asked the pharmacist what would be similar and comes in a tiny pill and he found something for me. It's been a life saver.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
