A couple of Dr. Aceves questions

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, It is getting closer...July 13th, Most times I feel great about my decision, occassionally fear creeps in, I am there tonight. Does anyone know what kind of pain medication Dr. Aceves uses? I read somewhere Toradol, which to me is like a tylenol! Also you are under general anesthesia right??? I could swear somewher I red someone had a epidural! I've written Nina but wanted to hear some real time experiences. Thanks Cathi

Yes I was under general anesthesia but I also had a spinal. The anesthesiologist explained that I would be in a lot less pain when I woke up because of the spinal. I have to say, I had no pain at all other than left shoulder pain.

I don't know what they were sticking in my iv. The first night I had pain in my shoulder from the gas they fill you up with.

I just had general anesthesia, no spinal. Somebody said that if Dr. Aceves thinks he'll have to do a hiatal hernia repair he doesn't do a spinal. I don't know what they put in the IV, but I had NO pain and NO vomiting. I did get gas pain on the second day in my shoulder, it was more of a steady ache, but they stuck more stuff in the IV. I got sublingual Toradol to take home with me.

Yes you're given anesthesia and some people also do have epidurals depending on any medical conditions that may make this a not-so-good idea (blood clot disorders, etc.) and I was given Supradol for pain relief. Most are fine with this regime so no worries Cathi.

I had the spinal in addition to the routine general anesthesia. I have a history of vomiting with spinal and morphine, but whatever they used sat perfectly well with my stomach. I had the spinal for the full 3 days and I would get a shot once or twice a day, depending on what was happening. I like the spinal because almost no pain. I think they do it depending on your medical history. They put the spinal in after you are under anesthesia so you don't know anything about it until you wake up. Much easier than the eidural you get when you're having a baby :-)
