One month to go, July 19th

Recommended Posts

I finally have a surgery date and it is July 19th. I started this journey back in Oct. and I am now just a month away, it felt like it would never come. I am so excited to get this done.

I needed to come here to read tonight because my husband has been talking about how worried he is about everything and anything about this surgery and honestly, I haven't had a second thought since I started this whole journey. I asked him if he would just give me his support and he said he would support me, but he was worried. Thank you everyone for posting your stories, the good and the bad, because I do feel that I have learned so much and know that it isn't going to be all roses at first, but that I will love my sleeve. I can't wait.

Dianne

My surgery is on july 20th. I was all anxious until I got my date (crazy I know). Now I find myself up at night worrying about the "what if's". I go into my 3 yr olds room at night and just hold him while he's sleeping. Is that crazy??? Anyways just saw that u were a day ahead of me and wondered what feelings u are having...

Hi there... I'm having my done on 7/13 provided I get my passport in time ! I am so excited I can hardly focus on anything else! But, I am a little worried too and I think that is natural before having any type of surgery. I've had a few abdominal surgeries for other things (not WLS related) and my experience is that if I can just get on the other side of surgery then the stress goes away. Even though there are after affects like tenderness and a restricted eating plan they are small challenges and much easier to deal with once you experience the relief of having surgery behind you. Hugging your children is never a bad thing because WLS journey aside we never know how much time anyone has on earth. I just keep telling my son, I'm going to be such a better mommy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
