readytolive 1 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi Everyone, Thank you for all your posts and comments on this forum, it has been very educational to read about everyone's experiences! I am scheduled for the gastric sleeve surgery in July 2011 and I am so excited! I have tried everything to lose weight for the past 15+ years and it's like my body is totally fighting me so I'm looking forward to this new tool. My husband had the lapband in 2007 and has lost over 100lbs and is still looking and doing great. I can't wait to join him on this journery except I'll be getting the sleeve. I'm trying to decide between Dr. Kelly and Dr. Mario Almanza so any additional info or comments on that would be helpful. Plus any tips on what to bring or plan for pre/post op would be great! readytolive 1 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi! I am scheduled for my surgery July 14th!! I'm terribly nervous about the week long liquid diet, and finding the right vitamin's and what not. Any luck? hi there! What city are you having your surgery in? I have to pay cash so I'm going to Tijuana. I can't believe it but I'm actually willing to go wherever is necessary to get this done and feel better after the research I've done. I haven't received my full pre-op instructions yet because I'm just turning in paperwork but they penciled in the date for me. I thought it was a 3 day liquid diet? What are your instructions? Would love to keep up with you in your journey, it would be fun to know someone that was doing it around the same time!
Heather~ Sweetdreams 10 Posted June 21, 2011 Hi! I'm having mine in Dallas! Just a hop, skip, and hour long drive from home! I had to go through all the "pre qualifications" required by my insurance, which was a really long process. I have to start my diet on the 7th, and I'm fretfully nervous about it. I love to eat! So I guess that this is a way to start programming myself to what I will have to do after surgery as well. I can't believe you are going all the way to Tijuana! I don't think I could do that. Is the cost a lot less than in the states?

Is the cost a lot less than in the states? You must have me confused with someone else. I'm having mine done in Richmond, CA. I started my pre-op diet on the 15th of this month. It's not too bad. You can do it! Just think of how great you are going to feel. It's a great reward. Do you have a surgery date yet? I don't. I'm meeting with my surgeon on 7/15 and I hope to get my surgery date them. Heather~ Sweetdreams 10 Posted June 21, 2011 Oh, no a newbie asked where I was having my surgery above. How long do you have to do your preop diet for? Is it all liquid or do you get to eat meals?
pamblan 2 Posted June 21, 2011 Hello, I am scheduled for surgery on 22nd of August and have opted to go with Dr. Kelly. My Doctor in Canada did a huge amount of "incognito" checks on both Doctors and strongly recommended Dr, Kelly. She felt his credentials were excellent and was thoroughly impressed with the hospital. Dr. Kelly charges $5500.00. Hope that helps!! Best of luck to you. ~winecountrygirl~ 3 Posted June 21, 2011 Oh, no a newbie asked where I was having my surgery above. How long do you have to do your preop diet for? Is it all liquid or do you get to eat meals? They haven't mentioned if I will be doing a liquid diet I'm pretty sure not as all my instructions say to follow the pre op diet right up until surgery day. I am currently following the pre-op diet which consists of 3 meals, no Snacks. Each meal is approx 400 calories. It is very carefully proportioned. I have to eat my Protein first and then the other parts of the meal. No drinking 10 minutes before a meal or 1 hour after, no gum, no straws, no rice/pasta/tortillas, only well toasted bread, no alcohol, no caffeine...basically what it will be like after surgery. They want to make sure that you are able to do it and are committed because you will have to eat like this for the rest of your life after surgery.
KellyL 173 Posted June 21, 2011 :welcome: Hi, congrats on your decision to get sleeved! I went to Dr Kelly and had a wonderful experience!! It was just amazing how smoothly everything went. I love Dr Kelly, he is very skilled and professional, but at the same time friendly, caring, and down to earth. I would recommend anyone to him. My sis went with me and was amazed at how well my sleevesisters and I did. She may go back at a later time to be sleeved as well. Please feel free to ask me any questions. Good luck and keep me updated!
