Hello all,

I just had my VSG on 6/16/11. While my doctor was taking most of my stomache out he also fixed my hieated hernia. I feel my recovery is slow from surgery but finally my vomiting has stoped after the doctor put a patch behind my ear, but now I am afraid to take if off, in fear I will be vomiting again.

Have anyone ever experience pain when swallowing the liquids? I feel like I am overflowing a funel, or that feeling you get when you drink a soda too fast and you feel a lump in your troat? Can anyone tell me if that is normal?

Thatpatch seems like a transdermal medication to alleviate nausea/vomiting. It's more than likely expected to be removed after a period of time anyways. I do hope you continue to feel better and better. Again, congrats on the sleeve!

What you are feeling is very normal. Your stomach is still very swollen and what is happening is your fluids go down your throat and hit your swollen stomach tissue and back up a bit. Take tiny, baby sips and wait for them to go down--you will probably feel them gurgling through your stomach. When you don't feel liquid in your throat anymore you can take another tiny sip.

Sorry about the vomiting, I didn't have any so can't help. I will say that the more you drink, the better you will feel--dehydration can make you feel nauseous.

I am 3 days out and feel the same thing. Moreso with Water than with a Protein Shake or my med which is thick. Makes no sense that water hurts but it does.

I am getting the same feeling and gurgling in my stomach. I am 4 days out as well 6/22. Not vomitting and doing pretty well. are you up and about yet? I think that makes a difference in recovery. I am out and about and feeling well. Good Luck on your journey.

I am 9 days out from surgery and the feeling I posted before is gone. I am out and about now. My biggest issue now is I am mentally hungry. I'm in Phoenix Az at my daughter's volleyball tournament and it is very hard because we have to eat out and being mentally hungry and feeling fine, I just want to dig in!!!

When did you all start your Vitamin B12? ?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
