cheravola 0 Posted June 20, 2011 Does anyone know if the staples used in this surgery are metal and therefore you can never have an MRI??? I have knee issues and VSG scheduled for 6/27 . My ortho says I may have to MRI knee prior to surgery depending on staples used or I will never be able to do it postop.. Gonna call surgeon tomorrow...just wondering if anyone else had this issue. Foxbins 625 Posted June 20, 2011 The staples are metal (titanium or surgical stainless steel) but an MRI is fine as both metals are not "ferromagnetic." You won't set off the airline metal detector, either.
Rootman 1,101 Posted June 20, 2011 Yep, what Foxbins said. For some screwy reason a scheduled MRI was delayed because the provider refused to do an MRI on my till after 12 weeks post op, this was a brain MRI and not even of the abdomen. No one including my PCP understood why. So be sure your MRI place knows in case they have a screwy policy like mine did.
