Hi all,

Well, I hope to be approved tomorrow and I've got to decide if I want my surgery before both of my daughters b-days or after. My daughters b-days are July 13th and 20th. I THOUGHT that if I could get it done by the end of June and could get all the b-day stuff done I could be recoping and do the b-day parties if I'm just sitting there. (Hubby would help). I thought that maybe if I had two weeks before the b-days this would work.....now I'm wondering if I should wait until after which would mean I'd have to wait until after July 20th! The other issue is my hubby is going after me and we think a 4-6 week window is enough so if I have to wait later in July that means he has to wait until late in Aug!!!! AARGGGHH! What do you all think? Any thoughts? Thanks, Tracy W.

I would do the party stuff first....Just in case you aren't feeling well... do you want the kids' memories to be mom sick at their party? Maybe make it your last hurrah. I know you are anxious, but you have waited all this time.. what's a couple more weeks?

I agree! I would do the party before surgery! I was of no help with my kids for a good 2 weeks after surgery and when I went back to work I wasnt much help when I got home either cuz I was so exhausted! You dont realize how little energy you have after surgery! Everything is a struggle!! Drinking, eating, walking, resting... it's harder than what people say on here!! Trust me! So, in my honest opinion, I would have the kids' party first and then get your surgeries done. Let the kids, and you, enjoy their birthdays!!

You don't say how old your kids are. I've not had surgery yet (that's tomorrow, yikes) and my kids are 8 and 10. I would probably do the surgery before, myself. Hubby can handle all of the preparations. It probably won't be like you would do it, but who cares. Also, we don't do parties for mine anymore. They are allowed to choose 1-3 friends depending on what they want to do and we take them to an amusement park or a fancy dinner (Melting Pot is what my daughter chose last time) or something. So, maybe bribe them with a trip to the local fun place with a few friends and your husband? If they are younger, it's still doable. Just get hubby to take it over.

Just my opinion, but having said that, I have the most involved and "let get it done" husband on the planet so... LOL

I'm only two weeks out and I can tell you my experience. My energy started to go up just a few days ago. But as someone mentioned above, it is alot of work focusing on the sipping, walking, keeping track of Proteins and liquids ect. Also, you feel tired, dizzie at times. Nothing terrible, but you do seem to need to focus on yourself. I loved that I cleared the decks so that I only had to worry about recouperating. At times when I got a little stressed, I realized I had only myself to tend to and boy, it really made a difference in my state of mind as well as physcial health. It really paid off because I feel like I am over a hump. I'm feeling wonderful. Good luck to you!!!! and congratulations on your children's birthdays!!!!

Thanks guys for the responses. My girls are going to be 10 and 5, they are from China and we worked very hard to get them! I probably need to resign myself that I will need to wait and that it would be the best idea. I've waited since Nov of last year...what is a few more weeks? Thanks again, Tracy W.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
