Getting a little anxious...

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to be get my sleeve on Monday morning the 20th. I am just starting to get nervous and worry if I am doing the right thing. I have started thinking is this necessary, why can't I succeed at losing weight like other people have, should I risk my life having elective surgery. I used to be thin and very athletic but after 30 and two kids I have been on the yo-yo plan. I don't really have any comorbidities yet and I am self pay so I think I just want to feel like I am doing the right thing at the right time. I know I am probably feeling normal as I have read on here but just felt like sharing. I really enjoy reading everyones topics and comments they are very informative. Thanks.

I was self-pay for my lapband and VSG. I just had conversion to VSG on Friday, 6/17. I too was feeling the exact same thins you are. I'm glad I did it and I'm looking forward to each day that I feel better from surgery. No one can tell you that you are doing the right thing, only you can know that. For me, it is the best thing. I lost 53 lbs with lapband and only have maybe another 20lbs to go. With the VSG, I will be able to lose and maintain. Good luck on mOnday!

Good Luck to you. We are in the same boat. I am scheduled tomorreow at 9am. I am very anxious. I understandstand why some people are on anti anxiety meds because if I felt this way day in and day out, I would go crazy!. Hope you have a safe and uneventful surgery and recovery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
