Just curious how things are going? Did your appliance come out yet?

Umm NO. I no longer feel it in my stomach, they thought they seen on the cat scan in the staple line that night.

I never went the wls doc as the attitude from his nurse sent me over the edge! I am talking with a new bariatric doc to see if she is willing to follow me from now on, she does not do the sleeve but I am sure is capable of follow up care. If the appliance is stuck somewhere and requires surgery later, yes lawyers will be involved!

My goodness!! This whole situation just sucks!! Have you followed up with the hospital yet? I find if you go in person it tends to get more accomplished. People tend to be alot more rude and/or un-accommodating when you are on the phone because they can't see you. I really hope the appliance passes through soon to give you some piece of mind. I would definately raise some hell at that hospital.

On another note: the idea of a medic alert is a really great idea! Especially if you are traveling. I think I'm going to have to go get myself one ; )

OMG.....this is just crazy. I'm happy to hear you are switching doctors. Hopefully it is small enough to pass soon and not get stuck. Good Luck.

For those interested in getting a medic alert this is the text we were given:

On the front:

Medical Alert

(details on back)

NO NG

On the back:

Gastric Path Altered

(VGS) Vertical Gastric Sleeve

Most of them have enough space for additional information if you have more details.

I just had to say how sorry I am that you have had to endure this!! It is a travesty that the medical field is allowed to get away with such actions.

I am hoping that your issue will be resolved in a quick and easy manner and that you can put this behind you and that you can continue to focus on positive things....like how well you have done!! Do not let anyone or anything take away from the success that you have achieved!!:hurray:

Wishing you all the best!

Sorry you are going thru this.

How awful!

Kelly

I am totally dismayed. I called the doctors office as I was instructed too and they put the nurse on the phone and I explained my situation and she says to me "well I can put you in at 6 tonight but your going to wait like 2 hours." So I say to her should I wait all day? The er doc said to call you early because he might want to do a scope on me and the nurse snaps back with "that's not happening on a day he sees patients" with snotty attitude to boot. I put a call into my reg doctor to see what he says as I still have pain in my diaphragm area and I have developed a dry cough that seems to be triggered from that area. Time for a new surgeon!

I have never heard of anything post surgery about no NG Why is that?

You can have an NG tube, just not a Blind NG tube!!

My case manager said that we should never have an BLIND NG tube because normally, when an NG tube is inserted, they pass the tube through your nostril and down into your stomach without using a viewing device such as a camera to help with placement, but using their instinct and med school procedures.

After WLS you do not have as much stomach anymore, so they need to not do this procedure blind but use a camera and LOOK where they are putting it so that they do not accidentally poke a hole in your stomach thinking the tube should go down farther.

Kelly :D

As Kelly says, I think the idea is to alert them to not immediately shove a tube down you. That's why we were told to put that on the front with explanation on the back. In theory, and as Myrori has learned it's only a theory, once the person sees "gastric path altered" they will know what they should do. As an FYI, my program has a 24 hour emergency number and I have that on the bottom of my alert. It doesn't necessarily reach a doctor, but it reaches someone who understands the situation and can explain it to a medical person. And I really would have never guessed how necessary that might be in a hospital ER!

Funny you say cheese, because that is the food that started all this! I was a graduation party and the only thing they had to eat was pizza and chips. I decided to have the CHEESE only off a pizza piece. It was the first time in a year that I had that and my dental appliance stuck to the gooey cheese and was down my throat before I realized it was gone from its place in my mouth!

Myrori,

Just letting you know that I'm still thinking about you and this ordeal. I hope it all resolves for you!

Thank you. The process is complete! It has passed with some pain yesterday! I have written letters to my Doctor and the President of the hospital. My PCP insists the president of this hospital takes this stuff seriously and calls patients back personally, too little too late, but I want him to hear the details!

Oh dear that sucks! Literally. . . bet cheese is off your list now for a bit (no pun intended) . . . how are you feeling?

I feel fine now that is has passed, I was feeling it quiet a bit on its journey to the sewer. The emotional scaes are still raw from the hospital experience.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
