I have to drink 4 oz.every hour. How am I.supposed to fit in walking and a nap? 40oz in a day right now is my goal. It will increase in a few days to 68. BTW...still in hospital. :(

Sip, sip, sip. I was nowhere near 40 oz the first few days after surgery. It really, really does get better, but in the meantime, keep your cup handy and just take tiny sips as you can. If you're sitting or reading or watching television, just keep your cup in your hand so that you can sip. You can do it!!

Keep sipping! I know it's hard. It's all you think about the first week two after you get home from the hospital, or in your case, while you are still in the hospital! Does it hurt when you drink or are you just not getting enough in? Ask for some popsicles or ice chips....some people do have trouble with cold things right after surgery but I loved them so much better than room temp or warm drinks!

Hang in there and keep sipping, walk and sip and sip and sip and sip! You can do this.

I had VSG on 6/15 and today maybe I am getting in 36 ounces. I can't stand the bubbly gurgling feeling each time I take a little sip. Praying it goes away!

My personal opinion of the day: GET OUT OF THAT HOSPITAL!!!

I think that a person once physically ready to go home, will do better at home. We HAVE to move more. Women are "care givers". We will take better care of ourselves than a medical staff can with dozens of patients to take care of. If you have no medical reason to be there--GET YOURSELF HOME.

Also, hospitals are full of nasty germs and infections. Go home as soon as you can where you will be much, much better off.

Each day you should be able to sip a little more and it will make it easier. Dehydration feels HORRIBLE, so get your fluids in. The gas and burping stays around for a while but will go away.

All this inconvenience is worth it!! I am not even 6 months out and 16 pounds from goal. The pain and inconvenience is sure worth it. Take care and keep your eyes on the prize.

I am finally home. Sipping and walking. I'm glad to say pain isn't too bad. Today I walked the halls, took a shower, then had a 45 min ride home. Now I'm exhausted and feeling kind of quesy. I was doing ok until the bumpy ride home AND my little girls hopped onto my bed and that didn't feel good. We explained the situation to them and they've been gentle. Its hard for little ones to remember.

Anyone else have alot of spit? I know this is gross, but I'm literally having to spit out excess saliva. EW! Well, I'm going to try to rest. Each day gets better

Thanks everyone :)

Oh, the joys of excess saliva!! YES, I had that. It will eventually calm down until you try to eat too much, then look out. You're probably a lot smarter than me and won't do that, but let's just say that excess saliva was a big problem (it does, after all, take up volume in your stomach, and if you're already full, well--)...

I'm glad you're home. You're going to feel better really soon, I promise. The first couple of weeks are the worst, and then things start getting better. Hang in there!!!

I refer to those "saliva" moments as my "Rabies' Raptures". I remind myself of a wild fox I once saw who had rabies (poor thing). My father put it out of its misery, but I will always remember all of that foaming and saliva coming out of its mouth. Looked just like me when I have my "Rabies' Raptures"! --even the wild look in my eyes..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
