When did you start eating cheese?

Recommended Posts

Today I am three weeks out - I am planning to have some pureed lentil Soup for lunch and would really love to sprinkle some cheese on to melt in it. Maybe a silly questions, but what were your guidelines regarding cheese? I don't have any specific info about it in my instructions packet and can't call the doctor on a weekend... but it seems like it would be okay. Just wanted to take a poll while I think it over, lol.

Also, I see a lot of people writing about Laughing Cow cheese, but I've never been able to find it in a grocery store, where do you buy it?

My guidelines were "finely shredded cheese can be sprinkled on top of food for added flavor and Protein content" And that was at the 2wk post op stage.

Oh the Laughing cow cheese I find in the Deli section rather than with the rest of the cheeses...you know where they keep the "expensive" cheese like Brie and Goat cheese

Yep, I was able to introduce cheese @ 2 week out too. The laughing cow cheese comes in a perfect round container, everyone sells it, and I love the simple triangle size serving. I use it on celery and I bought some Special K crackers that I spread it on too... ummm

I'm a cheese-a-holic and put it on everything! I started using it at 2wks out in my soups!

As for the Laughing Cow, I find it at any supermarket. They even carry it at Wal-Mart. It's usually on the top shelf where the dairy is, but at Wal-Mart it's where all the uncommon cheeses are, right by the deli (at least at my Wal-Mart). OMG, I've been eating Laughing Cow for years now and LOVE them! They have all kinds of yummy flavors and it's very versitile. I use it on Ak-Mok crackers, celery, chicken, grapes, and I even eat it by itself!! They arent really high in Protein about 2g, but they sure are delicious and filling!! Make sure to the get Lite kind!

Thanks all! I did go ahead and start melting a bit of cheese into things and it's gone down great as well as made some of the bland Soups much more delicious. :P

I'll look out for Laughing Cow on my next grocery run, I only looked in the regular cheese section which explains why I didn't see it!

I started adding a little grated cheese during my full liquids stage. It melts really great on Tomato soup... oh yum!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
