Hi,

Has anyone out there gone the self-pay route? I may have to and I was wondering how deeply in debt I might become. If someone wouldn't mind ballparking I would really appreciate the info.

I am self pay on Monday but I'm having it done in Monterrey Mexico with Dr. Sanchez. I'll be having my after care done here by Dr. Curry. It is 8500.00 for the surgery then airfare was 1200.00 so about 10,000.00. Then your fills are free if you have them done in Mexico but I've found it cheaper to have them done here than pay for airfare. Most places I checked in the states was around 16000.00 to 28,000.00. There are many financing options such as health loans and things like that at low interest rates.

Hope this helps. You can find lots of info on this site and many wonderful people.

Mine was $17,000 in Everett, WA. Outpatient basis. Included the anesthesiologist one year after care/fills.

I used Dr. Speigel in Houston, TX and the fee was $15,000. Since I had it financed through Capital One, Dr. Speigel also charged an additional $510 fee. The interest rate I secured with Capital One was 9.9% for a five year loan. So, my monthly payments are about $320.

This is a lot of money, but considering that my husband and I were probably spending about $800 a month going out to eat (dinner and lunches), we are actually saving money since the surgery. Not to mention, you can't really put a price on your health and happiness.

I am self pay, I went through the Wish Center in Downer Grove, Il. I was charged about $9800.00 for the lap band (fills not included) It was a good deal for me rather than fly to Mexico

Hello,

I was self-pay, and I think the total was around $18,500. We took out a regular loan at the bank, and I think I borrowed $20,000 just to be safe. My monthly payments are around $400.00. This covered EVERYTHING to do with the surgery, hospital, one night's stay, and four fills afterwards. I love my band, and I don't regret it for a minute. The only time I have any bad thoughts are when I make out that check to the bank every month!

I also was a self pay, I did mine in france, airfare from USA is quite cheap to Europe, can get flights to Paris for under 800 USD with research. The medical care in europe is considered best in france and belgium. Max surgery costs and all inclusive hospital stay was 3500GBP, so roughly 6000USD. I stayed in a private room in an excellent hospital for 5 nights.

I can only highly recommend my surgeon, as he performs this surgery many times a week and has done for a number of years.

Hello.

I'm a self pay via SurgeryLoans. I decided to do my banding through Dr. Sanchez with the Diamond Package for $10,150 which includes my airfare for the surgery and airfare for my next follow-up/fill. My repayments will be under $300 for 60 months.

Thanks for all the input y'all. I did a search of previous threads and found most of what I was looking for. I also saw several posters mentioning lots of paperwork. It seemed that most of it had to do with getting insurance to pay though. What kind of paperwork or tests do most self-payers have to contend with?

I was self pay in Mexico, my SIL and I went together and had it done, we each paid about $7500.00, which included all surgical costs, would cover 1 year of fills, Dr. fees, pre-op testing of bloodwork, EKG,& Xrays, and 1/2 of the cost of our airfare. As for paperwork, we had to have medical records, and forms filled out for the Dr. that they sent to us online. There was a questionairre that I thought was likely ignored, that was done as a psych evaluation, but they questioned one of my SIL's answers and called to talk it over with her. Ends up she was being sarcastic, and with the language barrier, they didn't get it!!!

Now THAT was the good part. My surgery center had a nutritionist and psych in the office, so the only paperwork was regarding my health, physical and mental. There was quite a bit of that, but at least there was no fighting with the insurance company.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
