Decaf and my Taste Buds

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a great brand of Decaf they enjoy? I have been a coffee addict even as a child. I am more sad that I can't have my morning coffee, than the food I am missing. I tried Folgers decaf and Starbucks and do not like either one.

But I also have a second question: I am 11 days post op and I think my taste buds are out of whack. Nothing seems to taste like it used to. Has anyone experienced this?

They say taste changes after surgery and I have to agree. I used to drink coffee all the time but I've tried a few decafs and not really enjoyed them all that much. Probably my favorite Decaf is Tim Horton's.Yes, the restaurant version. And it makes me feel more like who I was when I go through the drive through and get my coffee.

I am only 4 days post-op and dieing for some coffee. I can not find anywhere in my binder that it says when I can try at least de-caf but I feel pretty confident that it is way too soon right now. food commercials aren't even bothering me but the coffee ones are killing me. Gonna call Doc office first thing Monday and ask about it!

My doc said I could have Decaf anytime, although, why bother lol. He said I could have one cup a day one month post op. Initially I didn't like the taste of coffee again when I started drinking it again, but I think it was that I didn't like the taste of coffee mate anymore because when I started using 1/2 and 1/2 it was much better. I am 2 months post op on Monday and drink as much coffee as I want now as long as I get in all my liquids too. As far as tastebuds go, they do change from my experience, I used to HATE haburger and mushrooms, now I absolutely love a hamburger smothered in mushrooms and oniouns LOL, that and hummus, hated it now I love it. Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
