June 24th is my New Beginning-My Story!

Recommended Posts

I am 23 years old, and have NEVER been skinny.

I've been called chubby, thick, stocky, big boned, told its baby fat, etc....but I've never been skinny.

I've tried Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, sports, dance teams, cheerleading, Phentermine, Atkins, Vitamin B12 shots, and the whole nine yards. It never works long term. It never makes me feel like I can actually adjust to the lifestyle required to maintain. I never feel full.

So I decided to do what some of the people I love might call the "lazy thing" and have VSG. I have never been more scared and excited for something in my life. I feel like I am being given the one thing I never had...to LOOK the way I FEEL. I want to live a life that doesn't leave me worried about "What if?" I get diabetes down the road, can't play with my kids, Heaven forbid, can't even HAVE kids! I want to be healthy.

I had my consult with Dr. Takata at Scripps Del Mar in San Diego on March 8th, seven days after my birthday and was cleared for surgery by insurance on May 17th. June 24th is my big day, and I can barely think straight between all of the preperation. I literally HARASSED my insurance to speed up the authorization, and the whole procedure and follow up care is going to be paid for in full. I understand after reading these forums that my surgery story is somewhat of a fairy tale in terms of insurance issues. I am definitely grateful to be blessed with this opportunity, and really treasure the support I've found so far here, and am excited to meet the futire friends I hope to make here.

Here is to each and every one of s succeeding in our journey to Skinnier and Healthier.

We got this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
